:covid_19: đŸ˜· đŸ„ Corona Virus the thread for all your fears ❓

Utter bollocks. Hardly anybody pays cash nowadays, I’ve been self employed practically my entire working life and I don’t recall cash ever making up more than about 10% of my takings. These days it’s so rare to even be offered cash that I genuinely don’t remember when it last happened, everyone that doesn’t get a monthly invoice either pays by card or bacs. Even when I did get a small amount of cash in the takings it would never have been worth the effort of losing it out of the accounts, HMRC have always had access to work diaries if they choose.

So what are we meant to do if the government won’t help out? They’re helping everyone else with most of their wages, as I understand it that isn’t even means tested, so they could have a fortune in the bank and still be getting assistance. It’s all very well to be told “stay at home”, but as goat said, no work = no money to live on. Like always.

Just had a quote on an extension, two builders have said they do it for lets say ÂŁ60,000 or nearer ÂŁ50,000 for cash.

And of course you said there is no way you could countenance that. Nice use of the trusty tar brush though.

Which are you going to use then? And will you ask for a VAT receipt?

I can’t talk for builders, or anyone else for that matter, only my own experience. If a builder is prepared to bilk the system out of 10k in VAT they deserve to be dibbed in and done for it.

obviously gone to some dodgy cunts to get your work done.

I even know a surveyor who also does planning drawings and will do them for cash, cash is king.

Nonsense.

Ha Ha thats my point, near 20% off and it’ll get past building regs? What would you do?

That’s another point as well. The builders could well be prepared to knock off the vat, but that ends up with the customer paying less, not the builder earning more. Imho, the customer is equally culpable in the fraud if he takes them up on it, he must know why the builder is dropping the price for cash.

No, a fact, she did my garage conversion, shes sound.

I meant the cash is king comment. I don’t care about your dodgy shysters.

I’m not denying that, guilty as charged, my point was cash will always out over fucking bacs if you’re talking large sums.

So basically, you’re saying that you’re benefitting from tradespeople evading their taxes?

If you know they’re good, some couple opposite me have a done a bit of both as they been there for 4 months, shaved £30 grand off so I am told, that was a huge job mind.
What I am saying is most brickies, scaffolders etc etc who’re out on their own subbying it etc etc will get about a packet of benson and a pint of carling on legit claims.

Fucking Tories

More tar brush.

Its been going on since the dawn of time, all of your tax is 100% legit? Expenses?

I’m in a difficult position now.
Most of my work is as a freelance, I have the southern franchise to teargas members of the public on behalf of local government, mainly for bin violations or dog fouling.
They’ve asked me to be on call this week, but if I go in I could face sanctions of some sort.
It’s all a bit confusing, especially as they have also decided they no longer recognise BACS and only want to pay cash-in-hand, like I’m a window cleaner from 1970.

Absolutely right. When the dust settles on this crisis one thing you can be sure of, it won’t be the government’ fault, none of them will accept any responsibility for political decisions they made which has resulted in the shit show which is happening before our eyes like a slow motion car crash. Johnson and his cabinet of none of the talents will all develop herd immunity.
