Lockdown coming! I’m welll stocked for toilet roll as I’ve been around all the supermarkets, snatching the stuff off old women. I’ve been coughing and wanking which seems to have put off any vigilante, ex-con skinheads. I’m going to win this Corona championship.
No thats the employer not closing the site, they should be held liable. Are people more important earning money than killing people they don’t know?
So why does the bbc need to do the one show right now
The presenters are sat two metre apart but sure as shit a make up artist had to get close
Why take the risk - particularly as the content is pretty banal.
Just show reruns of fawlty towers or similar
That is not my argument, my argument is if you go into work when its against Government advice your putting people in danger. if you go up a mountain when you shouldn’t its the same, when you do either of these things its a selfish motive, you may have a reason but thats no excuse.
I want the self employed to be paid far far more but that doesn’t give them the right to endanger others as they’ve been fucked over by a tory, two wrongs don’t make a right.
And if they are forced to they will stay home. They would have done it voluntarily if their finances were looked after like paye workers. That’s my point. No need for the teargas then.
<tongue in cheek>
What about us poor fuckers that have to stay at home AND still work!!
<\tongue in cheek>
Your point is solely upon the workers, mine was concerning the selfish cunts at the weekend, they’re in the same sphere but its a different argument, many could be paye but still going in as the companies are waiting to be told, Scottish pubs for instance.
If you’re told to stay in you stay in, it really is a simple as that.
The companies need to be held responsible for wanting the contractors in.
But they are not being told to stay in. They are being told if you can work from home then do. They are being told it’s fine to go for a walk in the park. They are being told that the PM shakes hands with covid-19 patients. That he’s going to visit his mum on mother’s day. That his dad will go to the pub if he needs to. Do you get it yet that the public has been misled by our government? The gravity of the situation has been undermined by piss poor communications.
And now the government, and you Barry, will seek to blame the people. They didn’t listen!
Well, I’m sorry, they did listen but they were listening to a bunch of inept cunts.
Jeez the documentary on BBC 1 right now is like an actual horror end of world movie
How the World ended thingy.
Inside Out London I think prob on IPlayer
Yes, and this is exactly to situation i am faced with. Although no way as big as some of these sites, i own a construction company that has sites currently open and working. Like most in the industry we employ subcontractors who employ self employed workers to carry out their works, for us. There are a number of reasons why sites all over the Country are open. I’ll give some background.
- Most site workers are self employed and rely on production to earn their money.
- Virtually all are not higher rate tax payers and rely on their weekly / fortnightly wage to pay their bills and provide for their families.
- Most do not have any safety net to rely on and this is why the Govnt need to extend the support to self employed.
- All Main Contractors will have damages clauses within their contracts for payment deductions from the Employer if they do not finish on time or within a revised timescale for reason listed in contract as Relevant or Compensation Events.
- These figures are substantial.
- These figures are generally passed onto the subcontractors so they and the main contractor effectively become jointly and severally liable.
- No contractor or subbie wants these damages invoked - it will ruin companies.
- There are no Relevant or Compensation Events available for this type of event.
Essentially contractors are currently running scared. Most unamended JCT contracts (most commonly used contracts for construction) will allow for the following. I the Government or the Employer instruct cessation of site works, the Employer is liable for the downtime costs. These can be well over 10k a week on average. If the Contractor stops working or his subbies do, then he is liable for damages.
No one wants to make the first move. That and the need for the self employed do earn money, is the reason why the sites are still open.
I am not a big Contractor, but i still have to find 85k a month to pay all my overheads before any profit. Take the damages i have mentioned into account and i have another 50k a month liability. It will not take too many months until i cannot trade if sites are closed. Replicate this all over the country and you will see the problem. I’m not using it as a justification, just an explanation as to why sites are still open. However, i’m fucked if i’m going to let what i have worked my bollocks off for over the last 10 years go down without a fight. I have 18 employees and 18 families depending upon me to get through this.
How many on the tube this morning looked like contractors on building sites?
I’m not denying the Government has been shit, where have I?
I want a full fucking lockdown so its doesn’t spread, full testing and the NHS to have full protective kit supplied.
And another thing. Two of my sites are providing Primary Healthcare facilities (much needed) for the NHS. GP Surgeries are an essential part of the process. I’m not going to leave them half finished and unable to provide.
They’re not listening or can’t fucking hear when they’re up Mount Snowdon…
