:covid_19: 😷 🏥 Corona Virus the thread for all your fears ❓

A cautionary tale about lateral flow test accuracy.

The daughter of a friend was on a weekend camp: had been in a minibus with 10 others. All too young to be vaccinated. On their return, one shows symptoms and tests positive. They’re all told to do lateral flow tests to be confirmed by PCR, and to isolate. One positive lateral flow, nine negative. PCR then confirms 10 positives.

Kid Goat is off to Reading today along with 105K other youngsters. Approx 5000 cases after Boardmasters last weekend so am expecting a big bump in cases after Reading.
Herd immunity advocates will be jumping for joy.
Kid Goat double jabbed so should be fine.

Sigh

I’ve got a sore throat, cough and sneezing a lot today

  • hopefully only a dose of standard lurgy and not Covid brought back by YoungAdult#2 (I had covid at Xmas and double jabbed but read earlier that resistance can decrease)

Lateral flow test in a mo’ and we’ll see.

Lady Slowlane had the cough/sneezy/runnynose lurgy last week and hurriedly did a Lateral Flow on Sunday morning as I was going to St Mary’s. LFT negative but to be sure she had a PCR at the Airport on Monday morning. Fortunately returned a negative yesterday afternoon.
As for St Mary’s mask wearing on Sunday…I put mine on walking up to St Mary’s and took it off walking away after the game. On a guesstimate I think around 0.1% of the crowd joined me wearing a mask.

On the train on my usual sojourn into work, there were 4 people (including myself) wearing a mask.

People have just decided it’s done.

Went to Chester Zoo on Sunday. Zero mask wearing outdoors and in the indiir areas where masks were “strongly advised” very few wearing them.

The even had a couple of compulsory areas (apparently to protect the animals!) but were struggling with people kicking off about not being forced.

Yes, last week at the trailer park I was at, practically zero mask wearing in the club house and pretty much the same in the local penny arcades.

I put it down to most of them being knuckle dragging Londoners but it was rather concerning, I have done 2 LFTs since I came back as I have headaches and muscle aches, so far they have been -ve.

Simon Clarke, associate professor in cellular microbiology at Reading University, said that in the week ending 20 August, the ONS estimated that 756,900 people in England were infected with Covid-19, which equated to one person in 70.

“This time last year, the ONS estimated that 28,200 people in England were infected. That is the equivalent of one person in 1,900 being infected with Covid-19. That means that community infections are 26 times more common now than they were a year ago, when the population was unvaccinated and the country was three months into its reopening.”

First day back in the office tomorrow since lock down - frantically trying to find clothes that still fit - luckily no more suits and ties. Jeans and casual top & trainers it is.

Forgot what a faff it was getting my shit together.

Thankfully I’m out on the sauce from 12:30 and won’t be going back in again until late September :+1:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but weren’t you all for it?

I not angry with Track and trace - I am angry with the fuckwitt that may have just put the nix on my holiday - I haven’t been away for two weeks for over two years now.

I appreciate it is not rational but there you have it

I am wallowing in self pity, I usually find the best way to ease that hardship is to blame someone, anyone, irrespective of guilt
