We’ll see in a week or so, but colour me sceptical.

ā€˜Reasonable’ to require care home staff to get jab - watchdog

The UK’s human rights watchdog says it is reasonable to legally require care home staff to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

Care home workers were included in one of the earliest priority groups for vaccination so, in most cases, they have had both doses and are now fully vaccinated. But some staff have not come forward to take up the vaccine and that stance has become a matter of public and political debate in recent months.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) says a proportionate approach to requiring care home workers to get the vaccine could give more freedom to the residents they care for, as lockdown restrictions ease in the wider world.

But it says the government should include safeguards and minimise the risk of discrimination, with exemptions included in the legislation - such as for those who cannot have a jab for medical reasons.

Any legislation should have a sunset clause and be subject to regular review, it adds.

The government has held a consultation on making vaccines mandatory for those working at older adult care homes in England.

The EHRC acknowledges this would be a ā€œsignificant departureā€ from current health policy but says the move could protect service users who are at particular risk from the virus.

Has anyone posted this one yet by former New York Times science writer?:

See also this one to put current events in to perspective.

TL DR:

Lab leak is at least as likely as wet market origin.
Cover up of US funding of lab.
WHO report supporting wet market origin devalued by massive conflict of interests.
Current media interest in lab leak origin is a damage limitation exercise with main goal to obfuscate US involvement.

Some very respected scientists are saying it cannot be ruled out and needs further investigation

A lab fucking about with corona viruses in the middle of the epicentre of the disease??? Of course is can be a coincidence- I bet that bats / corona viruses are in abundance in Wuhan so where between to stick the Lab, but…

Anyone trust Xi and his crew to tell the truth?

I don’t trust any politician to tell the truth, and after the demonstrable mendacity of our health secretary and Prime Minister, I think our gaff has got too many glass windows to launch the all out boulder attack.

I’m sure you were equally sceptical about the emergence of Novichok near Porton Down.

Xi has his own interests to protect, why focus on him rather than on the lies of the institutions and individuals who are supposed to be acting in your interests?

And yet for basically a year there had been near complete media and government consensus supported by a compromised WHO report that the exact opposite is true.

The science is basically irrelevant if you can’t trust the government and media institutions disseminating the information to the public at large.

What I find interesting is that the media is now prepared to entertain the Wuhan lab theory.

Bit quieter on the Wuhan Military Games theory…

Surely they must have a few WMD’S tucked away too or can we not run with that one again?

I think former president Trump’s espousal of the idea tarnished it for anyone wishing to be taken seriously.

I rather suspect it’s the acceptable good guys / bad guys racism that Barry used to practice.

The articles above suggest that this isn’t a simple case of demonising China to justify further aggression. If that were the case the war machine would have jumped on the opportunity a year ago.

The suggestion is that US organisations were complicit and this was largely covered up with the cooperation of the WHO to blame the virus on wet markets. Cook in the second article credits the first article with exposing the cover-up and lack of consensus amongst scientists.

Biden can no longer justify that a lab leak was an impossibility and so instead he is doing everything he can to make sure that China get the blame and US involvement is obfuscated.

There are two aspects to this narrative that I am aware of

  1. the Chinese blame the US for bringing the virus to China during the military games.

  2. the military games is what led to the global distribution of the virus

To be true the second doesn’t necessarily require the first to also be true. The virus could have been present in Wuhan already.

I don’t ever see the Western media entertaining the first aspect unless incontrovertible evidence comes in to the public domain. Maybe the second will, because it emphasises the spread of the virus rather than the origin and allows collective blame to be assigned.

This.
