:covid_19: đŸ˜· đŸ„ Corona Virus the thread for all your fears ❓

Fair point, the hygiene factor is clearly important to transmission etc.

Of course, but that’s not really the point at the moment is it. Would you cycle 50 km away during a pandemic, when the instructions are to stay local in the part of the city where you live? Johnson and his gang went seven miles away so he could cycle round the Olympic Park. What’s wrong with St James park which is on his doorstep, many people cycle there. Why stop at seven miles, let’s make it ten, or maybe twenty. The point is that he immediately undermines the instructions his government gave just the day before. The cheeky sod even expressed concern about the number of people who were exercising in the Olympic park! This sense of entitlement by our so called betters, starting with Cummings, who opened the can of worms and did so much to undermine the government’s advice from the start, is one of the reasons we are in the mess we are in today. Actions have consequences, and idiots need little excuse to justify their behaviour.

The answer to your first question is yes

A ride from my house to Lymington and back is a couple of hours and one I would do normally

Fair enough. Presumably you don’t agree with the part of the instructions referring to staying local to your village/ town/ part of the city where you live. During the current wave of the pandemic.

Let’s hope so and let’s hope the Govnt do all they can to assist the NHS to achieve this.

I guess it’s the difference between driving somewhere to exercise as opposed to heading out from your front door

The main issue with driving to somewhere is that people tend to head to the same spots eg Bolton’s Bench or Bolderwood which creates congestion particularly in the car parks

I wouldn’t drive somewhere specifically to exercise

It’s a difficult one, when I cycle I cycle on my own, I leave my front door and do a circular route to get back to my front door, I think the furthest I got from my front door (as the crow flies) was 10 miles.

My cycle route could be 35-40 mile.

It would be impossible for me to cycle in the local parks as a) they are too small b) they are full of walkers.

I loved lockdown pt 1 as the roads were empty, they’re not so empty now

Close contact definition changed

Used to be 15mins within 2m for each occasion

Now aggregating all contacts throughout the day and if 15 minutes exceeded then close contact

Dr. John’s no BS update for today

Absolutely agree with you. CBs point about people tending to head to the same spot to exercise has been shown to be patently true. The point is though, if Johnson is to be believed,( a big ask I know), too many people were heading out to the Olympic Park to exercise yesterday, I’m sure many of them who had parks and the like to exercise in near where they live, but they aren’t as nice as the Olympic one. Whichever way you cut it, at the very least it’s against the spirit of the instructions. We know, all sensible people know it’s not equitable, but as I said before, the idiots need just a chink of light to push the door open. Those who ignore household mixing, don’t like wearing masks etc can claim either all the instructions apply or none of them to justify their behaviour, if some can cherry pick, all can cherry pick. And you’ll never persuade them otherwise. Of course, we should never be in the situation we are in, the measures demanded by the scientists, since March last year regarding social distancing, mask wearing, not shaking hands with Covid patients and then boasting about it, not travelling out of your area etc, have been undermined every step of the way, mostly in a very public way by those charged with implementing the rules. Beginning with the Dominic Cummings episode, the SNP woman who travelled by train to London and back has been arrested, quite rightly too, but in the grand scheme of things what she did pales into insignificance regarding the undermining of the rules compared with the damage done by the whole Cummings episode all those months ago.

I have been shielding at home in Liverpool since March last year. At the beginning of December the rate was under 100 per 100,000 people. A week before Christmas it was 400 per 100,000.
This afternoon I received a text alert telling me that the rate today in my area is 1,500 per 100,000, a frightening figure. It is going to be a bumpy ride over the next few weeks, for all of us, but especially for the nurses, doctors and all health workers who are on the front line trying to get us through this, while under incredible stress and pressure, some of them literally watching the collapse of their hospital’s infrastructure. They really are the best of us.

So it turns out that Johnson and co drove to the Olympic stadium with their bikes, rode around a few times then drove back. Just out of interest i wonder how many of his entourage were from separate households. I’ll make an educated guess, all of them.

No, just for a sickipedia whatsapp group with a pompey fan on it :smile:

My manager went to have his first jab and my partner’s work place has been offered the spares in their area to get more of the social workers vaccinated.
We are still down a few people at work and after months of no illness other’s appear ill too. The inbox has gone up a lot and today was a nightmare. Not sure what happened over the weekend in our area. Just imagine if we were all knocked out by covid. Not sure what the contingency plan is for protecting vulnerable children if it happened.
