:covid_19: đŸ˜· đŸ„ Corona Virus the thread for all your fears ❓

Make it up as you go along seems to be the current government mantra

Just been talking to Mrs G about this. She reckons there is no way that this will wash with doctors. It’s a panic response. We obviously haven’t got enough of the pfizer vaccine.

Every reason to expect that will work, but like all experiments, until you have the result you cannot be certain.

I suspect it’s not possible logistically to vaccinate rapidly with the Pfizer vaccine etc
which they are struggling with. Easy option now is to STOP vaccinating with the Pfizer vaccine and make sure a clear plan is in place for the second dose for those already received dose 1 and make sure the repurces are allocated as a priority to do this

Then all new vaccinations use the OX/Az

With respect to the ‘cocktail’ approach’ - indeed there is currently no evidence that this is effective as a second combination dose BUT as I see it, that is not the purpose of giving a different vaccine as a second dose
more that it becomes a different primary dose to give those patients more time protected?

The way vaccines work by enabling the body to recognise pathogens, in theory, it should mot matter how the antibodies are produced provided we get a level that is sustained should we exposed to the virus

From what I have read, I don’t have any worries about safety (despite there always being a small risk) and would be OK with taking one type of vaccine now and a different one in 4 weeks or so

However, how this has all been handled and communicated is once again driven by political mileage and bombastic chest thumbing by that arsehole Boris as opposed to setting out a clear plan that took into account the real logistical challenges

The real issue hear is that the brouhaha created by the media about mixed jabs makes it impossible to determine whether what is proposed makes sense

They go out and actively seek out dissenting voices and present these in such a way that even if you can demonstrate that the proposed solution is good, it is lost in the noise

Beating up the govt re PPE is one thing, this is entirely more dangerous because if people are persuaded not to take the vaccine because of what they read for no good reason, people die

I have a friend who run a lab and has taken part in the trials - he has zero qualms about the vaccine - he says so much money and so much resources have been poured into it, that it is probably one of the safest drugs ever to hit the market

To have an impact we need a large portion of the population to be vaccinated.
Again, a large portion are already anti-vaxers.

Sure those who want to do stuff like go to a pub or travel will take anything, me included.

But huge numbers will not and the more FUD spread by the Uturners the less will take it.

They’ll be rocking up on the tube/mall with no mask, attending Raves and swamping the NHS.

Vaccine needed confidence they have destroyed that inside 3 days. Again

Most people here will still have the vaccine, regardless of the noise being generated. Certainly enough percentage for it to be effective.

What about the brouhaha made by the media proclaiming this huge victory for Britain in the Express, Sun and Mail etc? Claiming we were first to approve it and how this was only due to Brexit etc
simply shows how approval means nothing if you can’t organise the logistics Competently

We have vaccinated over a million so far

Not bad from a standing start

We compared to the RoW I think we will probably perform ok

And yes I sure you can wheel out examples of countries who are kicking the arse put it eg Israel but equally their are just as many fucking it up eg a France

The minute that quarantine restrictions are lifted for those people who have had the vaccine - the queue will be a mile long outside every centre

But whatever fuck ups happen in France or Israel is irrelevant. I can forgive that this is not an easy situation, but it was all the ‘ how great are we BS’ that was championed by Boris and his media pals

Seriously - do you really put faith in Boris’ tub thumping?

That is his style of rhetoric- I thought we learnt this lessons from “world beating” track and trace

Edit- just looked up the track and trace stats - the trace teams are averaging 85% contact rate greater that the 80% required to be effective- maybe not world beating but pretty decent

The problem is people seem to want instant results and don’t appreciate how hard rolling this stuff out is particularly when it’s never been done before

The media shout at govt “what are you doing about
”

The govt are compelled to say “this”

The media immediately start with “why haven’t you don’t it yet”

I’ve heard very similar things about Liverpool. One of the youngest’s mates is a nurse there. Patients are much younger. Be safe out there, people.

I don’t think that’s the case, tbh. Most people do recognise that, but the headline writers will jump on absolutely anything they can generate a story from. “Government doing their best in the face of an unprecedented crisis and making a better fist of it than I could” would usually be far closer to the truth, but it won’t get you any retweets.

No you are missing the point
I don’t expect instant results, I expect competent leadership, even if it means delays in execution of the vaccination rollout because they have developed a comprehensive logistical plan
Its got nothing to do with faith in Boris’ bluster, but the fact that he and his cronies are happy to be triumphant in rushing stuff through, and then blame others when it fails

You are suggesting atrade off between getting the vaccine into people straight away or waiting until they have developed the logistics plan in full

So, how do you think the media (and the general public for that matter) would react if the government has stocks of vaccine, however refuses to start vaccinations until their comprehensive plan was completely ready?

“Blood on their hands” would be my guess - and they would be right.

As it stand 1m have got some form of protection - even if we are having issues with getting it into care homes - which will be largely solved tomorrow when the AZ vaccine is rolled out

You have answered the point yourself - you don’t do this with any consideration of what the fuck wit media think or print- you do what is the most appropriate and right. This Government only acts as it thinks will play well in the media
and that is why they have continually fucked up, miscommunicated and caused all the confusion
