As I understand things, we’re still not applying controls until June 1st.

I think the problem with the government’s response is that they’ve done things that make no sense to the layman.

We’re a fucking island. There are only so many points of entry, and most of those can be controlled. This is not hard stuff. Theoretically, we know the name of every person coming through a UK post of entry. Every passport is scanned on the way out.

This was also one of the first things other countries did. It’s fucking madness, and the only explanation I have for not monitoring points of entry is that you want the infection to spread.

FROM THE END OF THE MONTH!
By then, most other countries will start OPENING Borders again

:lou_facepalm_2:

HEY VIRUS! Have I not constantly warned you if you go on like this we’re going to get really tough on you.
RIGHT! That’s it we’ve had enough
we’re going to stop you getting into our country
in three weeks time.
Don’t say you weren’t warned.

Strong and stable (door) Government.

After the political shenanigans of the past few years, after all the rhetoric, the one thing this government could be expected to manage is to ‘Take back control of our borders’, keep Johnny Foreigner out. They couldn’t even get that right. I’m with pap, it has to be their deliberate policy, infect as many of us as they can get away with, keep Cummings ’ herd immunity experiment going for as long as possible. Nothing else makes any sense.

The answer this far has been to defer to the science which, we’re told, said that testing or controls at borders would have negligible impact.

So now that other countries’ inflection rates are actually lower, if these sort of border controls have negligible impact, then why do this?

Was the science wrong?

I think that when local transmission was out of control, shutting the borders would have been had little impact. now we have got the infection under control, shutting the borders would help

Or something like that

Science is often more a recommendation than a “this is it” scenario, science is evolving. That fact actually makes it more important that it is free from political interference but that is not going to happen
