Iāve been watching a lot of analysis on this and have been a bit too busy to commit myself full time to ye olde Sotonians, like, so I donāt know if it has been covered before.
Not sure where I picked this up, but one fella was talking about habits, and how it takes about six weeks for a habit to kick in. His hypothesis that as necessity becomes the mother of invention and people find alternative ways to work, within six weeks theyāll wonder why bothering with foreign travel, or indeed, going into the office at all.
Habits can form.
It would be a shame if this one did. Seeing people in person is key. I tend to treat people as an email address and not a human being if I donāt see them often enough.
@saintbletch and @Nottarf-Krap have more acute cases. They think Iām about to goosestep down the Hitlerstrasse without that personal touch.
You back in England, Rob?
Fucking scary really. As one of the comments said, he is a lunatic. And he is our Prime Minister, in charge of things during a potential serious health crisis like this? Making it up as he goes along. The only thing on his mind is getting through till Friday, then off to Chequers where heās down for some partying and shagging.
Right from the word go the actions of the Chinese authorities should have been heeded. Very quickly they locked down cities of millions of people, to the amazement of the rest of the world. A hugely drastic step which was incomprehensible to the West. But it would appear that it has been effective, no dithering around, a realization that it had to be done. Reports from China would suggest that infections are slowing sharply. Ok, their economy took a temporary hit, as will Italyās, but, as the Italian leader said when announcing these latest lock down measures, sometimes the majority have to make sacrifices for the minority vulnerable members of our society. Can you imagine our bunch of cunts expressing those kind of sentiments? Sometimes i do wonder if Johnson and his āBritannia Unchainedā cabal see the coronavirus as a blessing. Possibly 100,000 deaths, overwhelmingly old, already unwell,(ie, expensive), Ease the strain on the NHS and social care. Deflect criticism of ideologically driven lack of care assistants as the realities of Brexit start to bite. Blame any Brexit woes on coronavirus.
This governmentās response to this virus outbreak has been woeful. Prevention and urgent containment is the way to manage an outbreak, as is done extremely rapidly with animal outbreaks, ie, foot and mouth Responses are done in hours. You donāt allow it to spread and see how it goes, 'take it on the chin". Utter madness. This country is now about where Italy was two weeks ago. Yet, yesterday flights were arriving at the UKs major airports from Milan, with no checks, allowing potential carriers of this virus to go to all parts of the UK. āLet it work through the populationā are Johnsonās words of wisdom. An experiment of madmen. The official government strategy appears to be to do nothing until itās too late. What could possibly go wrong!
You missed the bit where they silenced the doctor who wanted to speak out about it, he mysteriously died as wellā¦
Luckily it does according to the website. Doesnāt cover food though.
How is the doctor dying relevant? It is a fact that when this virus first appeared in China they very quickly locked down cities of millions of people, a hugely drastic step which had the West shaking their heads in amazement. They must have known the effect it would have on their economy, but they went ahead and did it anyway. Because they recognized that it had to be done. When push came to shove the economy came second to human well being⦠Compare that to our lot, where when it comes to a choice between the health of the economy or the health of the general population the general population comes a very poor second You can take that to the bank.As evidenced by Boris (take it on the chin and let it work through the population) Johnson.
First time in a long time I have agreed with bumbling oafā¦
Why didnāt the Premier mention it in their congress?
I donāt know. Why do you think he didnāt mention it? How is this in any way relevant to my post?
Because at the time he thought the Chinese could brush it under the carpet, thats how their regime works.

The US will be one of if not the worst 1st World nation this hits, it will affect the markets and in turn Trump so every cloud and all that.
Itās going to hit us hard. Schools will close. All major events will be cancelled. The NHS will be under severe pressure. Expect screenings to increase massively in the next few days and the Government to start announcing more measures to try and slow the spread.
Stable Door. Bolted Horse.
ā¦like allowing Cheltenham festival to go ahead despite a case of COVID-19 in Cheltenham?
Iāll expect the government to gamble with lives for the sake of the economy. Cunts.
Weāve got a local (as in four miles away from me) case.
Consultant doctor based at Aintree hospital just back from Italy. One can only hope he didnāt go to work before self-isolating.
Thing is Bletch - have they ever done any different? From finding food banks acceptable, to underfunding critical services to provide tax cuts? A 100000 may die from this virus, but how many have been dying early for years due to poverty, lack of social care, lack of the latest medicines or diagnostic procedures, MRI scans etc?
Of course the virus needs to be tackled, but itās the complete lack of context I have an issue withā¦
Worst Christmas special ever.
Thing is Goat, all those things you mention donāt really āhit us hardā not in the grand scheme of things - 3-4 weeks of inconvenience really to deal with this properly. I suspect there will be plenty who make out itās hard working from home or missing a gig,but really? Only folks this will really hit hard is those who die and their relatives⦠(the ones with relatives that actually care that is)
