:covid_19: đŸ˜· đŸ„ Corona Virus the thread for all your fears ❓

As I said before, I wasn’t commenting on any of that. Please don’t go all Barry on me.

Fair enough, but this is a man with a documented history of destructive hyperbole that advances nothing progressive.

Even if your personal scope of complaint is the use of the word criminal, it’s pretty fucked when you consider his previous, which has a noted history of demonstrably false statements.

Context is king.

That’s where we differ as I don’t think he does chat that much shit.

Talking of destructive hyperbole, Lammy didn’t call 17.4 million people fascist, nor did he call Labour leave voters fascist. That is simply not true. He likened the behaviour of some of the hard line ERG members to fascists. Giving as an example Rees Mogg being happy to put on to his web page the racist AFG(Alternative for Germany) Party. Translating this as Lammy calling 17.4 million people fascist is hyperbole worthy of the Daily Mail.
Lammy did have some support by the way.

Ah yes, my mistake, he wasn’t referring to 17.4m people as fascists.

He was referring to the ERG as Nazis. And then said he didn’t go far enough.

Carry on. “Level-headed” Lammy is in session.

Think we need to go to the Brexit thread again. Weird to even mention it.

Ps it was the AFD. Utter arseholes and I sadly breakfasted with their founder and his wife (seemed a lot younger and not awful but who knows).

Weird. He disagrees.

Mate that was 2013. Get over it. Bigger issues now.

It’s a clear case of him talking shite and having to apologise.

And I entirely agree. These are different times. Perhaps Mr Lammy might care to update his repertoire.

So
now we will be treated to the Queen addressing the nation
well fuck off

so we now have 55000 deaths globally since this fucker arrived
horrendous for those who have lost loved ones
but in that time Approximately 800,000 children have died from preventable diseases or hunger
context is everything especially as sadly when we look back in 12 months time, how many of those who have sadly died from COVID 19 associated infections, would have died from their underlying diseases in that time anyway?.. of course it’s still horrendous, but why don’t we put this much effort, money and concern into those 7000 kids a day?

Maybe because they don’t contribute to the economy? Maybe cause they are mostly black or brown, living in some country riven with war, or corruption or simply of little value to the global economy, with nothing to offer us in the west? No oil, no minerals

Then we have that cunt Boris spouting his idiotic shite from his doorstep
and now the dear old Queen
what the flying duck will she contribute? Has she discovered a fucking vaccine? Or is she trying to get all nostalgic for some ‘war time’ blitz spirit? FFS anyone comparing this to ‘war’ is fucking unhinged

I think @Map-Of-Tasmania will agree but does anyone get fed up of the use of war like talk when we talk about health issues/covid-19?
I just heard “we have the weaponary” to fight this.
We have the medical equipment to (we don’t though).

This is a very crass remark and totally speculative.

I have just read this piece by Patrick Cockburn where he touches on this. An interesting article and a very good summary of how we got to where we are today.

Sorry it’s not. It’s a medical and epidemiological fact that there will be substantial overlap between the victims of this virus and those who would have died from breakthrough infections within the next 12 months
we just don’t know how much.

This is the issue, we can’t handle it because it’s accelerated and is overwhelming the health services.

It’s not crass. It challenges our perception of what ‘compassion’ is because we are equating the emotions of death with statistics and science. You can still have compassion and care a out the impact on those emotions, whist at the same time being rational about the bigger picture
truth is we won’t solve this through emotions, but through epidemiology and rational thought.

Please explain to me how it’s NOT fucking crass, to put these trillions of dollars into preventing the death of many who would die anyway within 12months and not give a flying fuck about 7000 under 5s that die every day that could go on and live for 60-70 years but for a vaccine we in the west take for granted?

Why is one life of an over 70 western person worth so much more of our ‘compassion’ and money than a black child in Some war torn famine ridden shitehole?

PS. And I say that as someone who has two parents still in their later 70s, a wife who has cancer, and a child who has some unknown hepatic disease

Oh and another thing
is it crass that they have suspended cancer screening services for Breast and bowel cancer here in Scotland? People will die unnecessarily because of this because their cancer was not detected early enough
 people die
 sadly every day.

Crass is comparing it to war

Didn’t say this did I?

I think it’s crass to state that people dying of Covid19 that have underlying medical conditions are going to die anyway, as if they aren’t worthwhile.

Didn’t say this either.
