Welcome back @tigger
Actually I am wrong
Because she was under 21 she had Bangladeshi citizenship conferred to her via her parents - under Bangladesh law after 21 you cannot hold dual citizenship and she would have lost it
As it stands she is legally a citizen of Bangladesh - which is what the govt was relying on
Was speaking with my youngest about this today. She suggested it felt like an example, and that is exactly what this is. If she really was such a threat to life and limb, sheβd have been a statistic on a death report.
Iβm not advocating that btw. My view remains consistent. If we can try her and convict her for crimes, do it. If we canβt, suck it up and accept that thereβs some legal work to do down the line.
Just think this is the worst possible decision for UK citizens, leaving us bereft of something once considered secure. So bad it makes extra-judicial murder look good.
Is this necessary, or is an example being made?
- Necessary for the safety of the country
- An example is being made
- A bit of both
- Neither
