So the neighbour who recorded the row, first called the police and when the police contacted him to say everything was fine, no one was hurt and no action to be taken, then decided to release the recording to the guardian “in the public interest” - may be that should be “for the public’s interest”
Bet relations in that apartment block have just become interesting
Tbf - If I was your neighbour and heard banging and crashing and screaming coming from your house I would just assume you had just asked your missus how she was enjoying her frying pans.
Iain Dale got booed by the Conservative membership for asking questions about the incident in yesterday’s hustings. I think his question was interesting. Does someone’s private life have a bearing job performance?
Boris didn’t want to answer because the answer is obvious.
I think Boris has got every chance of changing Conservative minds over the course of this contest.
He frequently loses his cool, gets angry and says stupid things. This is a guy that is loathed by some sections of his own party, and quite a lot of the European Foreign Ministers too.
The World This Weekend is on iPlayer radio. One of Boris’ chief claims is that he was a central figure in the multilateral expulsion of Russian diplomats following the Skripal mystery. Theresa May did most of the running on that one, Amber Rudd was made the public face of the matter. He went off brief and on record saying that Porton Down had confirmed origin when they had not.
He is also reputed to have not been particularly invested in any of the ministerial briefs he has held. We’d better have a damn good deputy if he takes over.
What a world we live in, eh? It’s one where you’re hoping Jeremy Hunt becomes PM. Can’t see it on this alone though. Tory faithful looked behind him in the hustings, nor did they seem to give a shit about his private life.
Yeah, I heard TWTW earlier. It beggars belief that he is almost (as it stands) in a position to be our PM.
At the end of the day we’ve allowed it to happen, but as I’ve said before, we’ve allowed ourselves to be cowed into submission through a misguided deference to “authority” over the years.
To a certain extent I feel we’ve only got ourselves to blame fore the shit show that makes up UK politics these days.
Problem is we are heading the way of Trumpville… where the Brassneck rules and just enough morons out there that dont care what he does as he is ‘not establishment’ … and irreverent blah bah…
The world has headed this way in blaze of online social media frenzy… whilst folks critique the MSM for its inherent bias (it was always such, but with that knowledge it was possible to work out some semblance of truth) there seems a wonton acceptance of every TomDick or Harry’s published POV masquerading as facts… lapped by those looking to believe… there is now an easy route to finding planty of ‘published’ utter shit that supports your point of view… much of it deliberately spread by the manipulators (does anyone really know how many Cambridge analytica are out there, posting targeted shit made up crap…It used too be a rarer thing… the whole made up rubbish about ‘Ba Ba green sheep’ to undermine the GLC, but these days alone can spread such crap and they do… and they do so in a targeted fashion to make sure it sticks…
Have we really come to this where a complete egocentric narcissistic cunt is going going to lead this country, the buffoon and clown image having masked his true establishment colours? … and in all likelihood, will then win a GE after having delivered a Brexit of sorts which the ‘people’ wanted’ despite the shit we will be in?
What the fuck has this world done to itself… or should i say, the real fallout of a global financial crisis in the modern era is only just starting two reveal itself
I think another reason populism is on the rise is because the British people haven’t really had much of a choice. It’s a different colour of neoliberalism. Since Blair got us involved, both parties have been fans of military engagement while in office.
I moan about the EU, but not everything can be attributed to them. Defence is entirely Westminster’s domain. It’s a scandal that we’ve not had a proper debate over our defence posture, or what we do with the budget. I was surprised to learn that we only spend 12bn less than Russia.
Parliament needs major constitutional reform, including a complete overhaul of the House of Lords and perhaps a written constitution providing some checks and balances against the legislators.
Its not just a UK PLC thing though, its a global shit storm. Historically the post economic collapse has seen wars… as more authoritarian Governments have gained mandates to do as they please… today, it seems folks are quick to dismiss all that has gone before without having a clue on what to replace it with… those that advocate this neo-anarchy, call is ‘opportunity’, but opportunity needs a seedling or at least a viable seed, not an empty pot and a load of soil, no matter how fertile some consider it to be.
The problem was never ‘neo-liberalism’… which by its honest aims is probably about as good compromise vs old school Left/Right dynamics that see nothing progress… major infrastructure and progress need time beyond election cadence, which dominates the agenda…, no the problem with neo-liberalism is its SEEN as compromise… as opposed to having the confidence in itself… and then you get folks like Blair who tarnish the whole thing by sucking Bush’s cock and tag us into an unjustified war…
We do need a new way… a new an contemporary politic that somehow does combine the social justice we all want with the economic environment that ensures our social justice is more more than tokenism and is practical and genuinely helps… whatever your political tone, the fact the 5th richest nation on earth has food banks is a fucking disgrace. We need a politic that deals with that through sustainable economic maturity… in which we ALL have opportunity to both make some dough and therefore pay more in to support those still looking for it. Its time we forget fucking names both party and philosophy and start thinking outside those old school traditional lines and come up with something relevant and workable in a modern UK/Europe/Globe.
Trouble is, most voters lack the imagination to go beyond the traditional…despite the traditional having fucked so many for so long… and too many voters seem to be selfish ignorant cunts who dont give a shit
I think we’re going to profoundly disagree on neo-liberalism, but that’s okay. My take is that it has been a forty year firesale of the national treasure, in many cases providing new owners with built in monopolies.
Relaxations in regulation have led to all powerful corporations sitting on trillions, paying tax where they choose. It also led to the first near financial meltdown since the Great Depression. We’re still picking up the bill.
Less social housing leading to an acute housing crisis, growing inequality means that more people are shut out of the property market. A once free higher education system now just a giant earner for unitversities and debt companies alike.
There is a role for the market and a role for government. A well run system has the slider in the right place. Neo-liberalism is the slider set all the way to market. By most measureable standards, the results have been a disaster for the average citizen.
We will… because your ‘slider’ was never in ‘neoliberalism’ territory… its been set in out an out capitalism mode whatever the colour of the politic or the names assigned to it… I could add its the typical perspective of those who seek to defend the Left/Right/Left/Right swing game - it played into their hands to suggest neo-liberalism was simply capitalism under a different name…
Nice to see others coming round to the fact that benevolent Dictatorships are the way forward.
Just imagine decisions planning for our Grandchildren not how to keep a job.
