:brexit: Brexit - The Ramifications

Er no Pap, I could be equally flippant …

Remainers mostly said: If we leave teh EU, we miss out on a whole fuck load of opportunity and risk what is already a fragile economy - the days of countries trying to go alone in a global system are history…

Brexiteers: we will be better off without immigrants from EU countries and it will keep the mullahs out (factual quote from Vox pop of 45-50 something women in Sheffield on BBC)

I agree that those pushing for hard-Brexit will benefit quicker and deeper than most, but I’ll credit them with having some form of ideological driver too.

For many, the sovereignty thing is everything. Overturning that for the Rees Moggs and the Farages is surely their key driver and comes before gain.

That they will be largely insulated from any short term losses means they can afford to simply push for an ideological outcome, and of course knowing that they will ultimately be placing themselves in the flows to get contracts or directorships of similar is simply the icing on the cake.

…and how is such a conflict of interest now acceptable?

Not sure what this is about CB… see post above. But you are in danger of playing a bit of a ‘victim card’ when nearly everyone acknowledges that not everyone was ill informed or racist …

The ill informed is perhaps more challenging a POV as it depended on whether you feel a reasonable knowledge of the implications of the decision on all sections of society would have made for a better and fairer referendum … I happen to believe it would. I stand by my comment taht I find it contemptible that some voted without giving a flying fuck about the impact it would have on the poor or vunerable - we still dont know, but its unlikely to be good…

I also disagree on your point that sovereignty - it may well have been a critical component, but not for ideological reasons, but for selfish ones… eg Murdoch has been desperate for us to leave teh EU as the regulations and have hindered his empire… and rightly so. Just as Trump is a distraction whilst his government systematically dismantles the measures designed to protect the vulnerable, the environment and public healthcare, whatever else, the EU has legislation that has ben good … despite what some may say. Moog and fuckers like him want more freedom to do as they please - that is their ideology. If the EU let them they would be campaigning for Remain…

No, you’re fine. The Kevin Arnold is a lovely drop and the Groot is banging with flavour, although maybe a bit acidic(i might be wrong. Drunk on an empty stomach).
You’re judgment is officially sound as far as i’m concerned😊

Meh. Us left-wingers don’t blame kids for good fortune, or even private education. No kid chooses how rich they are, or what school they go to. An adult can. I’ve got a great deal of respect for someone that did.

Rhetorical?

Obviously, it’s not.

This is my last word on the subject.
Don’t make “what Brexiters say” a drinking game, (when they make you laugh you have a pint of cider, down in one).
It will finish off the NHS.

Take Farage. He’d been campaigning to leave the EU for decades and for most of that time it never remotely looked like a possibility.

Rees Mogg has a similar, if not quite as single-policy-minded approach to the EU. He’s long wanted out. Again, long before it ever looked like a remote possibility to get a referendum let alone seeing the public return an unthinkable result.

I just don’t believe they started their battles from a perspective of financial reward. I’m sure it occurred to them that they could make more money out of the freedom of a non-EU UK but I don’t think you start off on a multi-decade campaign that looks doomed to failure if you’re primarily looking to turn a quid.

I’m just label collecting

In reality I’m none of those,…except a public school boy…and in some people’s opinions (wrong) contemptible

I just get pissed off with the invective, so its my way of taking the piss

I admire your desire to see some good in them… but these fuckers play the long game - like the long con… and Farage and his posters ? He is just racist …

Which posters are promoting Farage?

was a reference to his campaign posters… the long queues of migrants etc… ‘Breaking Point’ IIRC

I was about to post a long comment.
Mrs Bathsaint told me to delete it and try not to be so depressed.
She’s probably right. Nothing I post on here will influence anything. I honestly think we are headed for several decades of economic gloom and will maybe never recover. @pap offers nothing but hopes and dreams. I think this all any brexiters offer.
I’m not going to flounce. I’m going to be stoic and not respond to anything on this thread apart from random memes.
Is there a fingers crossed emoticon?
