I would doubt it’s going to be a balanced article, if the author is Kristian Niemietz, as in Dr Kristian Niemietz, the Head of Health and Welfare at the Institute of Economic Affairs, and a Research Fellow at the Age Endeavour Fellowship (AEF).
Head of health and welfare must be an interesting job when you consider who they represent.
Next up for an unbiased view, Jacob Rees Mogg(they’re probably very good friends).
On the upside this is the last forecast we are likely to see.
It was released to MPs in a confidential basis and could have only been in their inboxes 30 seconds before one of them had forwarded it on to the beeb.
Now the govt are going to say the MPs cannot be trusted with confidential information which, if released, might undermine the negotiating position.
So what is your take on the Growth forecasts then Pap? Notice you have not actually commented on the fact they make grim reading especially all the worst off up North… I suspect you will do a Redwood and suggest they are all aload of Bollocks? Whatever, the philosophical or principled arguments of EU or not-EU, all PRACTICAL indications show a shit storm and that is NOT just the result of May’s inadequate negotiations, no matter how much you might wish it were. We would be facing the same shit storm no matter who was at that table, as whether you like it or not, the complexity of our economic integration is intrinsically linked to our own fortunes …
Besides, you only have to delve into the details to see what a crock of shite it all is. Perhaps you remember the projections from last week detailing various kinds of “Brexit”.
Leaving aside the fact that remaining in the SM and/or CU isn’t really a Brexit, I found it very interesting that all three scenarios were predicated on us having a TTIP on steroids relationship with the US, which apart from anything else, has fuck all in the way of historical precedent.
The US is already a huge trading partner, and yet no formal trade deal exists. Quite why we’d need to sign ourselves up for some byzantine deal with them is a little beyond me.
The only people banging on about blue passports here are Remainers, as the hay for their strawmen arguments.
If we _had _some people treating blue passports like some kind of victory, I’d understand, but we don’t, and we never have.
More than anything else. it is indicative of people that were unable to conjure a single positive argument for remaining in the European Union still being none the wiser.
You can’t attack the actual issue, so you make one up and do that instead.
I think the actual Worzel Gummidge, with his extra-stupid head on, could probably do better.
And we’re still no closer to a single positive case for Europe.
I’m not attacking you. I’m attacking your approach, which _is _here and to be argued with.
If you can find me examples of Leave supporters losing their shit or playing dog whistle politics, that is more than fair enough. And for the record, I’ve seen most of the same arguments advanced here that I’ve seen out on Twitter on the #fbpe hashtag.
The article I was replying to is a pretty good example of dog whistle politics, for the reason I gave*. Look at the places I mentioned, and how they link things to Soros. As I said, it’s an obvious Anti-Semitic trope.

_ *Edit: fixed typo. off out for the night now, so apols if I don’t reply straight away._
I find it interesting that you expect the site’s Brexiters to defend things they’ve never said, @krg_
Why the fuck else would these issues, which have been zero part of our Brexit discussion, except when we’ve pretty much ALL condemned Farage’s domestic campaign, especially that poster, be raised?
How many people on here supporting Brexit have ever advanced the views you say we should defend?
I’m not putting pics of arch-ghoul and enabler of mass destruction Tony Blair up, and pretending you are him. As I said in my first reply to you today, this sort of shit is just indicative of people who’ve run out of argument. The poll would suggest you ran dry in 2016.
I think the problem is that for UK PLC to have any sort of economic growth and success it means some folks get richer and some lose. It makes bugger all difference imho whether that happens as part of the eu or not, BUT outside of the EU I suspect those that those gaining in wealth will do so despite any economic fragility- the poor will just get fucked by a different sent of pricks
Pap likes to pretend that no argument has been made for stying in the EU. That is simply because in his opinion he places no value on the reasons why many feel its a positive thing… as if it’s just some capitalistic perspective. It’s disingenuous at best, but to be so dismissive of what can be a very personal perspective when I and others have expressed a respect for his ‘principled’ opinion is just a bit childish and socially naive… almost as naive as suggesting the negotiations would be any better under Corbyn et al…
I am half ‘European’ - I feel a geater affinity for the turbulent mix of souther and northern cousins than I do with any of those who claim a ‘special relationship’… I mean look at the cunt they voted for last time around.
I place a lot of value on the symbolism of freedom of movement - that word freedom is not such a bad thing despite the very practical issues it raises . The symbolism of sharing ideals and being part of something beyond just our borders is IMHO of value despite what Pap thinks of this. The political idealism with its roots in the 70s is far more fantasist if an unobtainable utopia… the capitalist ideology fled Pandora’s box a king time ago. Even Mr Corbyn in a post Brexit Britain won’t be able to put that greased pig back in the box… and to do so would cripple us.
I am sure for some like Redwood the sovereignty is all ‘worth it’ despite him never having to be concerned about a economy manic forecast, or even better for Rees-moog and his investments in the emergence markets - self interest is just as evident in the Brexiteer camp as it is in the EU fat cats - they just sit in a different house…
The blue passport pap is mentioned precisely because it’s such a joke - that such a fuss was made about it by some fuckwits when it was proclaimed as a victory for a British icon. FFS it was as pathetic as you you suggesting it’s a fall back for those with no argument… as is quite common, you tend to very selective about what you respond too, often missing the point in the process.
Not really - if you want to better your lot, work hard in an economy that gives you a better return why is that a bad thing? Why should Polish plumbers not take advantage of our rates and provide a better future for their families if our locals a don’t turn up, or take two weeks to complete a 3 day job? No one has ever advocated some sort of free for all, the legislation already protects against folks getting handouts when they ain’t paid in, but opportunity is something that we should celebrate, not be frightened of.
Maybe I am too middle class for pap being the son of a squaddie who joined the Royal engineers at 17 and married a German lass ‘66… who would quite like the idea of being able to retire abroard without forfeiting pension rights and suddenly having to pay for healthcare - yep that is a bit selfish middle class I suppose but surprisingly I feel more fucked off for the polish plumber that I do about my lot which is obviously surprising g for a selfish middle class cunt that I am…
