Yes so fuck the poorest parts of the World, is that what you want?
We in effect subsidise poor decision making by supposedly capable people?
Is that fair?

Barry, its very clear he refers to the EU, because that is what has blown this up… you may note he is also prof of PRACTICAL ethics and as difficult as it might be for you, think on that and then try and figure it out
You haven’t answered the question,
I’ll make it easy.
Do you think its correct we give our surplus vaccine (note surplus) to the EU when we could be giving to more relevant and urgent places like 3rd World nations that will bear the brunt of this?
How will it look if we “collectively” help rich nations but not the poor ones?
That’s not ethical its fucking selfish, stupid and lazy.
Well I am partially sighted, so that’s my excuse.
But in the land of the truly ideologically blind, the one-eyed partially sighted domestic vagrant typing these words is king
Seriously though, I do remember you making the occasional criticism of the EU. I think the issue is that it gets drowned out, and I forget that you ever have.
It’s like me with The Expanse on the sci-fi thread. People would be forgiven if they though I only cared about one sci-fi show…
When considering the most vulnerable in relation to COVID consider that:
The third world nations have much younger age profiles.
The majority of third world nations are in the southern hemisphere where it is currently summer.
Greetings @Donkey_Schlong and may I congratulate you on your evocative username.
I’m not sure whether to whip it out or get over a couple of fast moving barrels.
Welcome Schlong,
There are 3rd World nations 3 hours flight from here with elderly people.
The virus is worse in the summer.
Both fair points. As to the first, I believe Barry might argue that the fact that the Third World has a lower median age than we do reflects poorly on us, and that ought to be addressed before we start fretting about dishing out vaccines to the EU which were originally procured by the UK government for the UK public. This is a position Barry has taken quite consistently in the past.
Welcome, btw.
It’s a fair point. Warm countries who treated the threat seriously & locked down have been less badly hit than colder nations. And it has been similar for many Flu strains
(Brazil was just stupid)
So, is this as good as it gets, we apply to join something that actually isn’t really as good as the free trade market we left in a hissy-fit. Cue Pap to wade in with a polemic on why this is way, way so much better
Oh, and Liz Truss is in charge
It’s actually a pejorative comment on the ability of a certain Irish Striker.
Are the majority of 3rd world nations 3 hours flight from UK? Do the ones that are 3 hours away have an older age profile than Western developed nations or not?
I suppose if you’ve got a Summer holiday booked it could be.
You mean reflects poorly in that their sexual prowess is higher and we need to up our games?
What you don’t mention is that Biden is expected to bring the US into that treaty, so we get a trade deal with them as well
What is good about this deal is it is for trade only - not any of the other shite that came with the EU
If the EU was just about trade I would have been all in
Of course that’s what I meant. I didn’t want to appear patronising by spelling out the bleeding obvious.
…in fact, something like the EEC that we joined.
No but that is besides the point, its done on need and need of the nations ability to recover, the poorest nations will take the longest to recover hence we should help the poorest first.
This was said in the context of the poorest nations and it being summer (your 1st comment), not here, the poorest nations are usually crammed together in places where the virus will and has spread very very quickly.
If you don’t have a job, money or infrastructure to start with, how hard can it be to work your way back to a position where you have no job, money or infrastructure again? I’m really not convinced by this argument about the 3rd world getting hit hardest by COVID.
I suppose you’re right just south of Gibraltar everyone lives in tents…
