I voted leave and would do so today but just wish we could get it done so that we can start afresh and maybe finally get something done.
Other people didn’t and don’t think we need to (OK, there is a need to do some restructuring in the EU tbh).
Do wishes come true? We’ll see I guess.
Well, that didn’t really move on the conversation did it
I
Am
Shocked
That’s Boris calling the bluff of the EU who were calling the bluff of the UK who were calling the bluff of the EU
Ok, let’s be honest here:-
Did the EU ever offer terms a UK Government elected on a mandate of getting Brexit done could ever take?
It’s a secret poll so don’t be shy.
- Yes
- No
- Don’t know

The EU, as is their prerogative, are trying to punish the UK now. They’re not doing what is best for their people. They’re being very petulant tbh asking for things they will not get.
Brexit is not now a case of which side is to blame for no deal, its just that Brexit helps next to no-one.
I voted “no” by the way, and obviously I’m a Remainer.
EU punishing UK has been their strategy from day 1.
Not something new.
Been discussed to death on here.
Make an example nobody else leaves
Yeah but all the same you get a like because you’re at least candid about what the EU is doing.
It’s always difficult to assess stuff in the moment, without context, but I reckon history will generally record that the EU, with much cheerleading from some very vocal elements on our side, made the wrong moves.
You’re right that they’re doing what they see as in their interests. I think what will increasingly come into question is whether their interests were ever tenable given the question on the ballot.
When you boil it down, whether it’s state aid, fish or whatever, the EU wants some form of control. The EU can’t not be the EU, and more than that, it can’t give the UK favourable terms.
The EU’s inflexibility will kill it. There are plenty of places with plenty to sell to what was a de facto closed market of 70m, now open for business.
I never believed that getting a trade deal with the EU was going to be the easiest thing in the world like the idiot Liam Fox, but I always knew that on the world stage, 70m is a fucking massive market to a lot of countries, and they’d want deals too.
Just look at the Japan deal. Nissan, once the poster child for the Remain dystopia, is now focusing on the left-handed markets and Sunderland stays on.
Once this is over and we have finally departed from the zealots on the other side how many of those still members will miss the deals we had with them? Will others then choose to follow our lead?
Nice to see your positivity - I genuinely hope it doesn’t go tits up. Given the record of the current government I’m not holding my breath.
Edit: spelling
Your spelling will improve once we’re out.
I may occasionally blow a fuse but generally I try to see the positive side of life.
Must admit that I am finding it harder by the day with the dithering going on.
Billions being given according to some sources to friends of our leaders and I voted leave.
I will probably end up in a loony bin
To make it worse the Billions are not being used correctly for the tasks given as failure seems more dangerous than the epidemic. Can’t we just shoot the lot and start again.
So weird old times, eh? The EU is saying it’s still negotiating. We’re saying we’re open to talks if substantive demands are dropped, but are not negotiating until then.
Perhaps no surprise, but the country that is kicking off the most is France. No disrespect to French people. I like them a lot. Their leaders haven’t been so great, and have had their part to play in some of the greatest disasters in European history.
C’est la vie!
So Johnson has clashed with EU negotiators over his attempt to seek continued use by UK nationals of the automatic e-gates used by EU nationals at airports and Eurostar terminals. In an attempt to keep Britons in faster lanes instead of having to queue up with the rest of the world. The EU have pointed out that this would breach EU law.
Out of the EU, out of Schengen, what on earth did the bumbling fool think would happen? Some 18th century bollocks about Her Majesty Demands on a blue passport will mean fuck all to a Spanish immigration officer. English exceptionalism at it’s finest.
And just wait for the Brexiters to start piling in, holding this up as an example of EU unfairness and how mean they are. Especially after we were kind enough to let all those Italians, French and Spanish come in, even though Coronavirus was running rife in their countries. We didn’t even bother them by asking if they had any symptoms.
It’s so unfair!
This is impressive stuff. I particularly liked the way that in lieu of any Brexiters complaining about this, you’ve just imagined what their reaction would be and used that for the basis of your subsequent comments.
Returning briefly to reality, I think you’ll find that most people don’t give a fuck. There are reasons for this. Primarily, and even before COVID, most people just don’t have the dough to travel abroad. Those that do often go outside the EU anyway. Turkey has (coincidentally?) become very popular since the demise of the peseta and the institution of the EURO.
Of course, my favourite bit is the excuse. “It would be against EU law”. Fucking priceless.
