:brexit: Brexit - Deal or no deal

I’ve tried to stay out of this given it’s a football forum and life is realistically far too short…but Pap do you really believe that the working and middle classes will have their lives improved by the inevitable hard Brexit that’s coming?

I do get that this thread has devolved into a bit of a dick measuring contest and semantics over the SNP. From a personal perspective I work for a Big 4 accounting firm in London and the discussions I’ve had with my clients over the past couple of years (mostly US hedge funds) have me worried for the future of the predominately service-based UK economy.

I’m aware that I’m very liberal metropolitan elite public schoolboy in saying this but for most of the UK (looking at you Wales in particular) it’s turkeys voting for Christmas but I’ll be alright jack pull up the drawbridge. Especially so once you look at EU-funded projects in deprived areas and consider the Barnett formula for UK tax revenue.

Is further centralisation of the country’s wealth in London in the interests of the few and the probable destruction of the Union really worth it?

With the caveat that all bets are off due to COVID/government response to COVID, yeah, I think so.

Is further centralisation in London the answer? Nope, definitely not.

Brexit was never a panacea. What it does allow for is divergence from the qualified majority voting power of the European Union and protection from the sort of grubby compromises that are required to get the unanimous votes over the line. What did Hungary get this time out? The mind boggles.

The exit has often been compared to a divorce, but rarely are the reasons behind the divorce discussed. One of the most frequent reasons for a divorce is that couples plainly look at where they’re both going and mutually decide that’s not the right direction.

This is that, and if the British public say they want to make a clean break, and have said so strongly in real polls, I genuinely don’t see how they’d be better motivated doing something they don’t want to do.

Ireland set to become the fifth biggest net contributor, and the second biggest by capita.

Irexit just got a big boost.

Desperate stuff pap. Irexit? Really? Latest polls indicate that if a referendum on EU membership were held in Ireland, 80% would vote remain, 13% leave and 7% undecided.
Apart from the fanatical Brexiter ultras, Jeff Taylor is considered a figure of fun, a bit of a swivel eyed nutter. Ireland will be going nowhere.

Do you think the Irish will be happy paying twice what the Germans do?

Opinions change over time. This will change opinions.

As I said earlier, opinions change and this will change opinions.

Another article on the EU’s daylight robbery of the Irish.

It’s probably worth remembering that there is still a strong culture of emigration among the Irish, and that the veto power of states, the only thing allowing Ireland to run a low corporation tax regime, is going to end.

You almost wonder if Ireland’s high bill is to try to get them to harmonise taxation ahead of the veto disappearing.

You mean nobody read the WA? Nobody noticed?

What an absolute tosser Duncan Smith is, thick as two deal boards. “Buried in the small print, unnoticed by many”. Voting to avoid scrutiny of the bill, then voting for said bill. Then whining about the inevitable result of this stupidity. Some of these Brexiters are beyond help.

It’s a longer story than my golf ones…
One day over a beer

I remember every detail of the first blowjob my wife gave me after our wedding day.

That’s how vivid my imagination is.

Italian.

Well, the last few posts have been completely off topic.

Don’t you bastards know that the correct form is to call me a giant fucking racist for even suggesting that we have closer relationships with three countries we helped to create?

Then moan about all the money you’re losing? NOW!

(landlord trolling services)

I prefer threads about blowjobs, as it happens, but if you insist.

You giant fucking racist.

Now can we get back to talking about made up sex lives for my vicarious thrills. Thanks.

If you think there’s anything fictional about my claiming not to have received a single blowjob from my ex-wife after our wedding day, then I suggest you review the evidence I submitted to the divorce court. :+1::grin::grin:
