Fucking hell.
Why teh FH? Do you feel its right if a bunch of neo Nazis burnet the israeli flag? Its about making sure the law is consistent. With flag burning, its less about the material act, more underlying hatred behind it and its a rallying call/symbolic of that hate.
It’s criminalising political expression.
You should be able to burn any flag you like.
…or for that matter, any flag you don’t like
Them too.
Brexit seems like it’s going to be a complete stalemate - we need this mega deal with the US quickly to take the pressure off the EU deal and give us more leverage.
The good news is that we should recover from the economic impact of COVID-19 much quicker than the major players within the EU now we are free of them - or so we have been informed by our wise masters - take that you COVID bearing Eurowankers!!!
Pretty much unnoticed by the public with all that’s going on is that the UK and the US have officially begun talks over a post-Brexit trade agreement. At the commencement of the talks, a specific demand has been cited, again unnoticed. The Trump administration is demanding that the UK submit to what is known as a “poison pill” clause that gives the United States an exclusive right to void any agreement made with Britain should the UK sign another agreement with what America considers to be a “non-market economy”. In the real world this effectively means that America has the right to veto any trade agreement the UK may wish to make with a third country if that country doesn’t bend over for Uncle Sam, doesn’t go along with the American dream of how the world should be. Is this what it’s come to?
Four years of arguments, recriminations, lies thrown back and forth, all in the name of regaining ‘sovereignty’, taking back control of our decisions. For what? Just to bend over, assume the position and brace ourselves for a right royal shafting from Trump and his cohorts? Sovereignty?
As the man said, “Fucking Hell”!
… well I hate to be a cunt about it, but some of us were suggesting this might just be the outcome back in 2016…
It’ll be a treaty, won’t it?
All treaties can be broken if one side takes the piss.
I’ve seen the argument made that this is going to be one way traffic in terms of agricultural traffic, but the US’ trading relationships don’t really bear that out. They buy a fuckload of their produce from Canada, Australia and New Zealand (oddly enough, countries that used to sell more to us) - which suggests that their market is slightly more nuanced than chlorinated mechanically recovered chicken.
In truth, the food in the US is the best I’ve tasted anywhere in the world, and believe me, they gave a fuck about food long before we did.
The first time I ever got back from the 'States I was like Ray Liotta after he gets out of the nick in Goodfellas.
Pack the frozen food. It’s moving out.
I find this worst case assertion that Americans eat a load of old shit, and we’ll only ever get the worst of their shit to be both understandable and ridiculous.
If all you’ve ever seen are the franchises that moved over here, considered dirt-level in the US, I might add, then I understand.
If you’ve ever actually fucking eaten anything there, it’s ridiculous.
Bring on the motherfucking steaks.
Who said satire was dead!
I’m serious. I’ve been over something like twelve times in the past 30 years, west and east, metropolis and small towns.
What’s consistent is that the food is good and very cheap for the quality on offer, even at the dirt-level. Most Americans feel like they’re getting their pants pulled down over here.
Most visitors to America really praise the food.
Why’s it suddenly going to become shit now?
Why’s it suddenly going to become shit now?
Have you seen any Americans lately? Next you will be telling us that they are a walking example of the benefits of a good healthy nourishing diet, and the quicker we adopt it in this country the better.
Have I seen any Americans lately?
Well, I suppose the last time was a couple of months ago, when I met my boss for business in Warrington and a party in the 'Pool.
The time before that. a month before, I did a couple of meetings with my US colleagues, flown over. Chester, I think it was.
Being honest, I then have to go back to 2018, where I taught a class of around 24 in North Carolina. Before that, I’d need to refer to my nine year long career, involving plenty of interaction with Americans, either here or there.
I’ve spent most of my life working with them on a day to day basis, and some glorious months of my life partying with them.
Yes, I’ve seen Americans recently.
Yes, there are some obese ones, but not very many. This is not in itself an entirely bad thing.
One of funniest things I’ve ever heard in my life was hearing one of the US big bosses called “a big fat fucking penguin” in a Donegal accent.
‘Some obese ones but not very many’. Are you serious?
Based on personal experience, yeah.
More than here, but nothing like the dystopia you paint.
42.4% in 2017 and rising. That’s not very many though, i suppose.
And they are just the statistics for adults.
