What part of that statement did you not understand…
Johnson has learnt that the bigger the lie the more likely it is to be believed, a la Goebbels. Turkey joining the EU and the UK being swamped by 77 million Turks was a good one, he must have been really proud of that. Must have been worth a few million yes votes by itself.
I don’t think it will at all. What Johnson is doing is straight out of the playbook of Trump, Farage and Bannon. It’s the double-down strategy. Say something outrageous and when someone demands an apology, just say it again.
Loads of free press, domination of the political debate, driven by the outrage of pawns in exactly the right place at exactly the right time.
The priceless part of this arrangement is that the pawns think they’re winning
“The priceless part of this arrangement is that the pawns think they’re winning”
No argument there.
Turkey coming into Europe was once a very possible thing. They’re part of the OECD, a large chunk of it is on the European Continental Plate and David Cameron once said he would pave the roads to Ankara.
Turkey has a claim to be in the EU, has petitioned to be in the EU, is part of NATO.
Why is this fairly simple scenario and fairly self-evident truth characterised as conspiracy?
Careful what you wish for.
“Goebbels was very clever here, too. He continually promised a ‘victory orgy’ to ‘take care of’ those who thought that their ‘treasonable attitude’ had escaped notice. And he meant it; that was not just propaganda. And that was enough to put an end to all uncertainty.”
No it wasn’t.
Don’t compound the lie. You’ve turned into pfeffel/farage.
And if they joined, most migrants would head for Germany where they have relatives and established communities… playing the the ‘bursting point’ card with posters of brown faces, was as ridiculously untrue, as it was racist… for someone so keen to throw around hyperbole about the death of democracy and how democracy is sacrosanct, I still remain surprised that you consider blatant lying to the electorate before a key vote a fair part of it…
The point is that most of the public are going to see people completely over-egging it, leaving themselves politically indefensible for the inevitable counter-attack.
Hyperbole rarely wins out to reality.
A great example is this “Stop The Coup” bollocks. It’s not a coup by any comparable definition. Ukraine was a coup. The October Revolution was a coup. The burning of the Reichstag was a coup.
The prorogation of Parliament was not a coup. It is such a low bar to clear.
When i was a small child, me having a 10 inch knob was once a very possible thing. Sadly, just like Johnson’s Turkish nonsense it didn’t happen. There are no plans by the EU to grant Turkey membership, so Johnson whipping up fears by stating that 77 million marauding Turks would be swamping the UK was a blatant scaremongering lie. But i have no doubt that it worked in millions of households. You are scraping the barrel basing your arguments on , ‘Ah, but it’s possible’. Now that is classic conspiracy.
Why do you think Parliament was ‘prorogued’?
Stop playing along.
The choice of Turkish people isn’t important.
The important bit to remember is the lie that the whole population of a country that had absolutely no chance of getting in, was going to up sticks on the imaginary day and all head here. Mainly because the dumb nationalists think they live in some Nirvana that’s never existed.
Our shit media played a large part in this obvious weeding out of the stupid
Interestingly, one thing that seems to have been ignored for a while, was there related vote distribution… I thought about it agin as my mum who is a passionate retainer remarked that she felt she should not have had a say… what with being 73 and all. She felt no-one who was within 5 years of retirement should have had a vote as the impact would be felt by the younger voters… as with the indy ref in Scotland, if the cut off had been say 65, the 'will of the people would have been quite different… should ‘democracy’ be restrict dot those it will impact most? its a fair question
Me too but I can cope with the extra inch.
Well I did find t odd that the Sun had a six page spread on violence at Sangat the day before the referendum… especially as teh story and pic were from around 18 months preciously… but I doubt such stories had any really impact after all, we know that these papers are scum and no one reads them or even looks at them let alone is influenced by them … what ever Murdoch thinks or the fact that the top 6 newspapers in terms of circulation all supported Brexit and when compared to the circulation of those that did not, it was about 7mil to 500,000… but hey its a free press we have so they are free to spread Murdoch and billionaire propaganda as much as they want… not a bad way to get around election spending rules that are designed to ensure fairness… oh and uphold democratic principles…
Good here innit!
But do you have a 10inch penis? That is what the fans really want to know
Last 40 years suggests otherwise.
You’ve turned into a daily mail headline writer.
You admonished for doing that when i first joined.
I was taking the piss though. What’s your reasoning?
…Mrs Map, just wondering why I am asking if someone has a 10inch penis on a web forum… Said I was asking for a friend, but it did not wash…
