Just joshing, papa. Mostly :lou_wink_2:

It was a 5 years yesterday that Mark Duggan was killed by police in Tottenham.

  • following his shooting riots spread across Britain.

  • The right claimed they were just ā€˜criminals’ and ā€˜mindless’

  • They were uprising against police racism and poverty

  • The police and state took a kicking. After the riots they took revenge with harsh sentences.

Pit was not primarily about people destroying property, even though there were elimaents of that. This was about hurting the police after years of violence.

There was a vast gulf between the way rioters were treated compared to the police officer who killed Mark Duggan. This reinforced the justified anger people felt towards the police and judicial system.

The police officer that shot Mark Duggan, officer V53, was released without charge despite giving testimony at Mark’s inquest that was very clearly contradictory.

He claimed to have never taken his eyes off of Mark, but the gun he claimed to see in Mark’s hand simply ā€œdisappearedā€. Compared to this the states response to the rioters was staggering. Within 6 months 1,804 rioters had been bought before the courts.

Mark’s prints where never found on the gun and the fun was found over 3 metres from where Mark was shot! No witnesses saw Mark with a gun and the officers at the scene said the gun just ā€œdisappearedā€. A police officer was seen ducking down by the door of a car for 12 seconds, next to where the shoebox was found, which was supposed to contain the gun earlier that day. Then the gun was found a few minutes later on a patch of grass.

This is an interesting case and one that is worth reading. It is like something from The US. I watched straight out of Compton and 100% believe that what happens with the police did happen. I used to think it was all for show. Then you look at the LAPD case and they got off after being caught on camera beating a black man, Rodney King. Sickens me for sure!

Yes so out of what I have written, you picked this? Yes the minority got a little carried away with the whole situation, it exculated well out of control. I would say the fire at the old furniture place was the worse, but believe that was from people that joined in, to tag along, trouble for the sake of trouble.

The root cause of the riots was the same as what is going on in the US police brutality against black people.

Just last week a young black man was violently arrested in London Bridge. Andy McFarlane was having an argument with his girlfriend, a verbal argument, when the police pulled over and arrested him, and forcefully put/threw him in the back of their van. Apparently they arrested him as they thought he was mugging the young women of her mobile phone. They did not ask the young lady or even hang around to find out what was going on. The girlfriend was stunned and was far more terrified of the police attack on her boyfriend than the unthreatening verbal argument with her boyfriend.

I’m not questioning there was genuine anger at the epicentre of the riot, but I cannot accept that rioting is justifiable. I would suggest that more that a minority were on the Nick or just out to cause mayhem, that was certainly the case in the copy cat riots in other cities.

I’ve known quite a few black mushes for a few decades. More my uncles mates than my own, but spent a lot of time chatting with them. One of them is a teacher in Cantell. Their experiences don’t sound like that much fun. Constantly getting stopped, having to prove that they’re honest citizens just for driving a nice motor. All top lads, ā€œtaxpayersā€ as the locals would call them, doing professional jobs, copping lifelong shite from coppers because they’re rocking different pigmentation.

I’ve no reason to disbelieve them, but when you see some the the exposĆ©s it backs up pretty much everything they say. I’d recommend both The Secret Policeman and The Secret Policeman Returns.

I remember one scene where a racist copper recounts two tales, relating to people he’d stopped. One was a nice looking white girl, driving without insurance. Another case was an Asian family in a car, which he’d deemed to be unroadworthy.

He lets the white girl off, sans insurance or sanction. He impounds the Asian family’s car, laughing as he describes how they’ve got young kids and had to make their way home on foot.

Not all coppers are bad, but fuck, when they are, they can’t half do some damage. How many are there?

Does this not tell you something? They felt this was the only option, many years of discrimination coming to a head…and still it goes on!

I have never seen a thread with so many Down Votes!

How can someone Down Vote a statement like ā€œAll Lives Matterā€ without any response to justify it?

EofA - let me play Devil’s advocate.

Perhaps people do believe all lives matter but are fed up with the fact that minority interests get constant media / political exposure (rightly or wrongly) but Joe Public also gets shat on and their own concerns ignored - resulting in Brexit, as an example…

So after some extensive (10 minutes) research, I have found the platform as to what BLM are campaigning for, and it’s based on 6 (not my choice of word) demands;

  • End the war on Black people

  • Reparations

  • Invest-Divest

  • Economic justice

  • Community control

  • Political Power

I haven’t included the link as I couldn’t find any that were particularly balanced in the reporting of this, you’ll have to look into it yourselves.

Edit: This is based on the US based BLM campaign, whether the UK organisers are adopting the same stance I’m not sure, it’s too early for proper extensive research on my part.

The blks are just jealous cos all the racists have started hating muslims now.

You mean like being the one left out of a threesome and having to sit in a chair and sort yourself out? Only instead of sexy fun-times it’s hate and killing?
