Starkey is a racist relic and he is being pilloried for his âdamned blacksâ and âblacks should stop going on about slaveryâ and quite right too but not his remark concerning the difference between genocide and slavery, thatâs my take on it.
But theyâre different offences. Youâre the one going on about slavery and genocide being identical crimes because theyâre both bad, which is patently ridiculous. Given the logic of your argument, you could say that every war in history constituted genocide by the aggressor purely because they intended people to die. All youâre doing is diminishing the meaning of the word, or twisting itâs commonly understood definition (which to most people would be a policy aimed squarely at the eradication of a specific ethnic group.) Slavery wasnât aimed at doing that, it was the hideous and barbaric exploitation of an ethnic group, but it didnât aim to eradicate that group in the same way that the nazis tried to eradicate the Jews, or the so-called âethnic cleansingâ in the Slav conflicts.
âŚin other words, some of the drivers have been browbeaten into making a gesture they arenât comfortable with because if they donât make it they are, clearly, de facto racists.
Iâve said before I donât accept that every single PL player starting the first games after the lockdown can have been both in favour of taking the knee and also happy to do it himself. There must be some who were bullied into it, just by the law of averages; I know plenty of people whoâve said they wouldnât do it on principle, even a government minister said straight out on camera that he would refuse.
REALLY powerful piece by Michael Holding and others in the build up to the cricket this morning on Sky
Worth finding if you can.
Im sure a link will pop up somewhere
Very powerful stuff from Mikey Holding, so articulate. Spoken from the heart, he was getting emotional at the end.
Fuck that, so was IâŚ
Tears in my eyes watching that this morning.
Thank you Fatso for sharing⌠Powerful stuff and needs to be shared.
When I saw this headline my first thought was it was happening at Villa Park today. My second thought was I know they want to make the crowd sounds inside the ground realistic but this is a little too realistic. Resist abuse.
Since when was the word âDVDâ a sacking offence? Iâve never heard of it being used as a term of abuse.
The term âDVDâ is a London-based derogatory slur aimed towards the Asian community, which depicts them as people who sell pirated DVDs on streets and in pubs.
Apparently
Me neither, but this article explains it
What a world we live inâŚ
Yeah its shit init⌠having to put up with the inconvenience of a bit of âPC gone madâ⌠as opposed to enduring years of slavery, racism, injustice ⌠are you really surprised that to try and get things normalised, free of this hideous legacy that by accident of birth us white folk have never endured, might just be a bit fucked up and mad.? ⌠personally I think we are getting off fucking lightlyâŚ
Who has endured years of slavery, injustice and racism?
Black people.
I know youâre making the point that no modern black person has been enslaved. Iâd disagree. Iâd say the US constitution and the US justice system effectively does that.
Slavery is still legal for US prisoners.
ââPC gone madââ the last battle cry of the closet racist/bigot⌠I am quite an admirer of Jonathan Pie, but that last vid posted by, missed a pretty big point. Do I think itâs confusing and maybe even a bit odd for folks to be so defensive of what they are called or how they âself identify?â yep I do, but what fucking business is it of mine? Absolutely fuck all and if anyone is TRUELY completely free of prejudices, they wonât give a fuck about it either⌠if some one wants to get offended on someone else behalf, good on them, but instead of critiquing middle class liberals for getting offended on someone else behalf, why not look at the reason they are getting all offended in the first place?
There remains a huge amount of ignorance, prejudice and idiocy in this world, and it will take ALL folks who disagree with it to stand up against it⌠and not fucking bleat like ignorant bell ends about the methods some Guardian readers might employ to do itâŚ
