Agreed. Democracy has failed. It’s time to impose some order on the global population, by force if necessary.
Better keep these discussion out of the football threads…
FWIW her’s my opinion on the subject…
You can’t judge events of 500+ years ago on today’s standards, yes a load of bad shit went on back then but everybody was at it.
It wasn’t a genocide it was the way wars were fought back then, on ALL sides, not one side was good, nor one side was bad…
Whatever next, ban Monty Python and the Holy Grail?
Well, it wasn’t a particularly great film - except if you were a Python luvvie. Discuss…
You have no taste
I don’t want to talk to you no more, you empty-headed animal food trough wiper. I fart in your general direction. Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries
Well the BBC also preferred to promote a group of middle class plagiarists copying a style of comedy created largely by a working class lad born in India.
I told you I was ill.

Cant agree, but that is not really the point IMHO. Of course we hope that as civilised and mature societies, we no longer behave in that way and that has in many cases not just been enshrined in our laws, but also in our values. Of course we judge the past by today’s standards, because that is how we know have become ‘better’, more civilised etc. We cant ignore it (and should not as they can embed and educate on important ethical and moral standards), and people of today don’t need to feel shame for it because we were not part of it… but neither should we celebrate it or excuse it if we genuinely feel we not longer believe in it.
Most folks of my generation probably grew up on distorted views of history, Robin Hood films with the glorious return of Richard from the crusades… not knowing much about them, just that King John was bad, and Richard was good… Its only when you look at the reasons for the religious intolerance and that you realise this is NOT just something that happened 1000 years ago, but sadly the legacy of that history is still felt today… as with all history, its not isolated events, but a continuum.
I hate the thread title, because there terms, Woke, Cancel Culture, are the new PC gone mad… they are terms used to belittle and mock efforts to bring about change in our attitudes that sadly for some are still stuck in that historical mindset, or find it ‘acceptable’ to justify actions based on the the fact its was ‘years ago’ despite the fact we have now learned that the original actions are reprehensible…
Forget these terms and just ask ‘what is the RIGHT’ thing go do’ and do it
Did the Indian bloke go on to film the funniest film in history?
Did part of him (his vented spleen, perhaps) co-write Fawlty Towers, widely regarded as one of the best sitcoms of all time?
Did another part of him go (perhaps his nose) on to direct some of the weirdest and wonderful films out there?
Did he tell any Ripping Yarns? Catch any fish called Wanda?
Was all of him not very friendly with his other parts, as Python was?
My point is that I don’t think you can accuse this group of competing show-offs of plagiarism, unless they were all competing to rip this Indian mush off.
I did like Q8
It absolutely wasn’t plagiarism, but they definitely stood on his shoulders. The Pythons said as much in numerous interviews, books, etc.
To be honest, I’m not a great lover of Milligan’s comedy beyond the Goons. I’ve tried to read his books and poetry but always given up on them, and I never particularly enjoyed his television work.
I found Puckoon very funny
I’m not saying they didn’t do anything worthwhile- though look back to the Milligan Q series which aired before them and tell me Python weren’t doing a rip-off?
The petrol station?
Not the one it Totton anyway
Never seen it. I know Python listed the Goons as an influence. What would you prefer? That it just died?
If that had happened, we probably wouldn’t have had the alternative comedy scene and we’d be listening to sell-out Bernard Manning tours instead of Stewart Lee.
I think the Self Righteous Brothers is one of the best sketches that Enfield and Whitehouse do. But if ENFIELD and WHITEHOUSE were to come around here, saying it was totally original and they didn’t rip the basic concept off Moore and Cook, I’d be out there like a shot…
In that case Waylander, I shall attempt another reading on your recommendation. It’s still gathering dust on my bookshelf, I think.

ever seen it. I know Python listed the Goons as an influence. What would you prefer? That it just died?
Perhaps you should make the effort then?
Not sure all the whataboutery is really needed tbf.
I hope you find it amusing…but humour is such a subjective thing.
He can’t have been that pissed off with the plagiarism considering he is in The Life of Brian.
