Am watching via text coverage only. Am in Singapore now
Its bloody tiring just watching it.
I think his opponent got his shorts from the retro 1970s football shorts collection.
Has he lost yet?
No, he is officially superhuman
Phew.
Didnt want to jinx it so stayed clear of streams & text updates!
he is still British then?
Tonight he is
We’ve been twice. Main trip was Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh under our own steam. I’d avoid buses. Driving standards awful so I wouldn’t hire. Trains not quick but ok. We booked local internal flights very cheaply.
We did Hanoi (worth a few days) Halong Bay - polluted, commerciaised and overrated - Hoi An.(nice), Nha Trang (I’d avoid), Hué and HCM City (a must). Went to Cu Chi tunnels on a day trip from HCM. Missed the Mekong as had to move on to Cambodia. We didn’t get inland but I wished we had.
It was a great trip - also took in Hong Kong, Beijing (Great Wall) and Terracotta Army art Xi’an.
The 46 hour train from Beijing to Hanoi was an experience I won’t forget.
Found him for you
More on Vietnam. When we first went (about 2012) it seemed they were desperate to encourage tourism but away from the main cities infrastructure and services hadn’t caught up. We were constantly having to avoid scams and hassle. Example was exclusive taxi booked at increased cost turns up with 4 other passengers all also paying extra. But fascinating all the same.
We went back, just to Hanoi after Laos, and it felt better, but we didn’t get off the beaten track.
Been twice.
Booked all the internal stuff except flights & hotels with Diethelm Travel - private tours & transfers. They were superb.
In Halong Bay did an overnight on a small wooden Junk - The Honeymoon boat or something- just 3 couples, beautiful food loads of drinks.
Wish we’d done The Highlabds, Coffee Plantations and that crazy Disneyworld type place
A stop in Dong Hoi to do the 2 big caves / DMZ is worth the time and Sapa is an absolute must - The Hill Tribes/market & a bike/trek (Bac Ha Market & the Flower Hmong
Paradise Cave
DMZ & Kheson Airbase
Museum of Entymology in Hanoi
Take a day time train from Danang (near Hoi An) to Hue or take Monkey Pass not the motorway
In Hanoi, a must see museum is Photojournalism Museum. The War Photos tell the story, apparently very few get all the way to the end, but I learnt more seeing 75% of it than any history book
The Mekong Trip seems a waste of a day but we loved it - you get closer to real life
And Hoi An is mandatory
So Vietnam isn’t happening - friends have kids - to much balls ache to manage
So we have a villa in Bali, as the northern monkeys say “that’ll do”
Hope they are married!
Damn.
If only there was some sort of online forum where you could ask a Professional Licensed Tour Guide to create a plan for you for a couple of pints that you could then pay for direct to the inbound Tour Company.
Grim.
