Had time to calm down a bit now. It’s fair to say that was a terrifying spell from Hardik that had our batters brcking it. He deserves the majority of the credit.
Saw some stats earlier that said that Cook, since that meaningless double-ton in Melbourne, has averaged 19. That’s not even as good as the various opening partners who have failed alongside him. I think questions might need to be asked about whether it’s impossible for an incoming England opener bat to form a meaningful playing relationship with someone in such terrible nick. And I say that with a heavy heart as he’s probably my all-time favourite English test player.
