🤪 2019 General Election Discussion :gov:

Of course it isn’t true that anyone who voted Brexit is a thick racist. But loads of them are. Silly to try and pretend otherwise.

Doesn’t stop people making the generalisation though

''It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way—in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only"

Fuck me Dickens was good…

Right, it’s the eve of the general election. As people know, I am both on the left and in favour of leaving the European Union. Therefore, no option is entirely good for me.

That said, I won’t be voting for the Conservative Party. They remind me of a Richard Pryor joke, except they’re not funny.

In the joke, Pryor is caught playing away by his wife. Trying to get out of it, he cracks the line ā€œWho you gonna believe, bitch? Me? Or your lying eyes?ā€

We live in an age where we are saturated with opinions and fake news. As someone on the left, I am particularly ashamed by the left when they try shaming potential Tory voters It’s counter-productive. It doesn’t change minds.

It can be difficult to make an assessment based on what you see on social media.

We’ve got more than that.

We visit our town centres and see the increase in homelessness. We rely on the NHS, but have seen it depleted, sued and set up for sale to more private interests. We see the verified reports that we’ve more foodbanks than McDonalds in this country.

We know that the Tories borrowed more in nine years than Labour managed in thirteen, and we’ve got less to show for it.

We see all that, but the Tories are telling us that most of the same people that have presided over this clusterfuck are going to be the ones to sort it out.

So we’re back to the Pryor joke.

ā€œWho are you going to believe, bitches. The Tories, or your lying eyes?ā€

He’s not a bit of a rascal, that is a carefully crafted image that has fooled millions. You included it would appear, sadly. Johnson is a pathological, compulsive liar, a sociopathic narcissiist. Your list comes straight from the Daily Mail. You got sent it? Perlease! Next you will be telling us that Corbyn is a Jew hater who, if he became Prime Minister would open the gates to every terrorist under the sun. It’s all bollocks, this is a straight choice between a racist homophobic liar, and a man who has spent his whole political life fighting racism and discrimination in all it’s forms, all on record. The establishment of this country, the BBC, the overwhelming majority of the MSM, are terrified of a decent man, taking over the reigns and running this country for the benefit of the 95% who, for years have been ignored and treated like shit. Terrified. The fact of the matter is that people who are doing very nicely thank you, earning over 80 grand a year, a sum that 90% of people can only dream about, are so selfish that they are prepared to turn a blind eye to food banks, people sleeping on the streets, the underclass dying in hospitals, just as long as they don’t have to pay an extra 20 quid a month in tax. They will go into the polling booth and put their cross for a cunt like Boris Johnson and all he stands for, and then come out denying it. Shameful, greedy cunts.

Laura K is a Tory stooge, desperate to get her man Boris elected. She is finished at the BBC, just watch her walk into a job at CCHQ when the dust settles. She’s done her job.

Absolute nonsense.

Latest poll for The Telegraph.

Probably made close to scare the blue to the queue.

You’ll be lucky.

I would like to say that tomorrow I will be voting…

Labour…

…in Canterbury!

A tactical vote through SwapMyVote and Ed W.

The Lib Dems will be getting my vote in Eastleigh.

I have agonised over this and had many long Twitter discussions with Sam Jordan the local Labour PPC, but despite his confidence he hasn’t been able to point me at any polling that puts the Labour party closer to the Tories than the Lib Dems are. I feel that, whilst Eastleigh is unlikely to return anything other than a Tory, it is more likely that a Lib Dem will win than Labour.

Hopefully my vote long wasted Labour vote will no longer go to waste in Canterbury.

How fucked is our system that I feel the need to do that?

From your fave media, no idea how true:

ā€œAt this election, polls suggest that while the Conservatives are weaker among Remain voters than in 2017, they are stronger among Leave supporters. So, the party might again perform relatively well in Leave-inclined seats.ā€

Of course not all Brexit voters were racists, that is just silly. But all racists were Brexit voters, you can take that to the bank.

I am in a different boat… NE Fife is pretty much a 50:50 between SNP and Lib Dems … only around 14 votes in at last election … but both are pro EU, but SNP would be a better fit for a Labour coalition given the Lb Dems previous, and Sansong’s voting habits… and whilst I voted NO in the Indy Ref… I would vote YES in a future one if it meant a realistic possibility of EU membership… so will probably vote SNP tomorrow

Fantastic points. Very well made.

found the counter point of view. Funnily enough from an old mate on Facebook.
