🤪 2019 General Election Discussion :gov:

No, however when a party puts up what is a pretty radical manifesto, then it is only right to question how the hell they are going to achieve their promises. And i mean in reality not some utopian world they think they are going to inhabit.

One thing is always certain with party promises, they always underestimate the costs and always overestimate the projected income

So when a party declares that the spending is going to be £80bn massive, I start to get a bit twitchy

Yep just like that

So if Labour don’t managed 150k social houses then they are liars as well?

That depends. If they genuinely try and fail, no.
If they promise something that they have no intention of delivering, yes.

I agree to an extent. But what is the alternative? We need to invest in our public services and infrastructure after 9 years of neglect. This is going to cost. Who do you trust to share that cost more fairly for the better of society rather than to benefit a few individuals? It’s easy to say ā€œcan’t be doneā€ ā€œwill cost too muchā€. We magicked Ā£500bn overnight to bail out banks. Where has that got us?

I reckon they will build at least one, which will give them a better record than the tories.

The Tories have had 9 years to make things better for all…how has that worked out…they’ve made it much worse for the poorest in society. They aren’t looking for change, they are just interested in preserving the status quo and TBH they’ve done it very successfully.
What makes you think a party who have taken a massive step to the right care more for the have nots than the party that entered government 9 years ago?

Shouldn’t that be 40 years of neglect and 9 years of destruction?

To the edge of the debt abyss?

Can we afford to take another 400bn? What will that do to our debt rating? I don’t know to what extent, but getting into bigger debt is usually bad.

As for public services improvement, yes it is needed but the scale of change should be manageable. Doing too much at once will just be a fuck up.

That’s a big figure( not as big a figure as the bank handout mind) but unlike the bank’s it’ll be spread over years and as soon as the first one is built we start getting a return. The arithmetic of council housing is a proven investment.

Firstly the govt of 9 yrs ago was dealt an almost impossible hand to play. Not sure how any govt could have done a better without creating other problems

As I have said previously the step to the right by the Tories is as a result of not needing to be in the centre ground Anymore because Labour went other to the left

But everyone whinged about centrist govts because they were not ā€œproperā€ labour. Now we have ā€œproperā€ labour and ā€œproperā€ Tories

Might be a case of careful what you wish for

You name the last large (mulitbillikn) govt capital project that came in on time on budget and did what was proposed (according to the original plan) and I will concede the point

My fundamental issue with the public sector is that they are really shit at spending my money wisely

It’s been fun - but got to do some work

Boris can do his own fucking campaigning

The last big council housing push worked quite well and made a continuing profit until some liar sold them all off on the cheap(biggest election bribe ever) and lied again by not building more.
It’s a proven win win and even if it wasn’t it’s desperately needed. Ask any homeless or young person.

Tories have massively increased debt whilst cutting public services, increasing homelessness and poverty. How the fuck does that work? If Labour build one council house they are better value than the tories.

Has he apologised to Labour yet for calling them liars? Seeing how he has shown himself up on national telly? Also how is he earning >80k when he is a couple of bars short of a twix?
