So it has. In my defence I only pay attention to around 50% of what has been posted, but I accept your complaint and if we can draw a line under it I will index it accordingly.
What a lot of cute ickle posts there are on this thread.
Wart you on about?
About you muscling in the action without your pun radar on?
Give the guy his due, he said he accepted full responsibility for the disaster. He then proved it by sacking the person who supposedly ran the campaign when everyone knows his office ran it. That’s really taking responsibility
Five years of the metropolitan left calling the working classes thick and racist has proven to be a great strategy- at least for the Tories
So the great reshuffle - is literally that. Most have got different cabinet jobs. If they are truely that bad not sure how that is going to help
Annalise Dodds is now party chair and head of policy - one of the criticisms about her is that she couldn’t connect with voters - now she is writing the playbook
Rachel Reeves is the new sh. Chancellor
Rayner has got a new job shadowing Gove - apparently Kier shit it taking on the left of the party and couldnt go through with sacking her altogether
I think they’re a bit fucked on the “having cards to shuffle” front. It’s a complete clusterfuck. Corbyn did better than this with the rest of his party and the wider media against him.
MP Tracy Brabin has been elected Mayor of West Yorkshire. This means there has to be a by-election in her seat of Batley & Spen which is another the Conservatives will fancy winning. Her last majority was only 3000
On the up side Rachel Reeves has spent 10 years working as an economist prior to being elected - she might be able to given Rishi more of a challenge
Where now? Well I think we need to start with the antiquated language that is still used despite it being irrelevant.
Can we stop talking about the ‘working class’ ?
We are all working people whether in an office, or in a trade or in a factory. Yes there are disparities in level of earnings and ultimately in disposable income, but step one for Labour must do is be the party of ALL working people, and stop patronising a segment of society that is ‘working class’ - its from the fucking 19th century…
It must also recognise that since 1979, the only time Labour have been in power was when they appeared to behave as Tories… because one of Thatcher’s best cons, was to convince the ‘working classes’ they should have more control over their hard earned… tax and spend became a dirty policy, and they played hard on the the flag waving Britain is best bollocks… and its worked. the last 40+ years has seen the country become much more ‘right wing’ in spirit, we love nothing more than a good Union Jack waving… the fact that the swing towards Brexit was driven by its appeal to those classified as ‘working class’ illustrates this - a belief that Britain on its own will offer them more opportunity and improvements in quality of life. Whether this is happen or not, is not even relevant, because its driven by belief.
So how does labour, reinvent itself to appeal to all working people, and erode the ‘conservatism’ that has become engrained in many working people?
Problem is, any desire to become that party, is screwed… because the old guard socialists see it as a sell out and hideousness of Blairism, and are calling for a return to ‘traditional party values’ - which has little appeal to the ‘Tory-fied working class’… Vicious circle.
The younger voters naturally see more traditional socialism as appealing, but as they get older and start seeing the impact of policy on take home, the natural selfishness seems to kick in. I would argue that Labour’s current demise has less to do with its own leadership ineptitude and more to do with a majority seemingly happy with The Tory policy despite the clown in Number 10… because why should a distrust of Starmer cause a more extreme protest of voting Tory… whose support is increasing?
I think England today is a Tory nation, not just in voting habit, but in mean spirit and selfish attitudes - The Tories have always been much better at manipulating the people - they are masters of creating the shit, yet convincing the voter it was shat out by someone else…
Labour is Doomed
Labour could do worse than properly embrace climate change and sustainability issues which is where, from what i can see, a lot of younger people have real concerns. To do this they need new blood. Looking from within their ranks to try and get a leader who can “unite” the party is a big waste of time and effort. The fracture lines are too deep for any one person to sort out. It seems they actually love the in fighting too, much preferring to bitch about each other being responsible for the piss poor performance of the other - all this “proper socialist v war mongering blairite” bollocks is tiring, boring and a waste of time. Meanwhile the Tories are racing away irrespective of their behaviour.
So you suggest that the “working class” were all hoodwinked by legacy Tory policy and subsequently patronised by Labour?
I would say the voting electorate are generally savvy and aware and that to suggest they have been manipulated by years of Tory policy into being greedy bastards doesn’t stand up. And i think they know the difference between an insincere neoliberal and an insincere socialist!
Its more about how attitudes towards community and social responsibility have been eroded and replaced with a much more self-serving culture, and I would stand by that. Societies ‘evolve’ in this way as a direct response to political or culture pressure and one of Thatchers openly discussed strategies, was her belief that once folks had tasted the idea of less tax (despite the gradual hike on stealth taxes etc ) they would not go back…
I know its not the done thing to suggest anyone is taken in by such things, and that every voter is smart and cant be fooled, but I humbly suggest otherwise… how else do we explain 80% Tory rule in last 40 years, yet the so called working classes make up 80% of the electorate?
The Tories represent the modern day working classes more effectively that Labour?
Yep Agreed
Take the warmongering out the equation and how does the old v new debate go? How does a party so steeped in traditional principles become more relevant to generations that do not see themselves in that light?
Yep.
Perhaps it’s because that’s the way they wanted to vote?
