I agree with you in this specific case that’s exactly what happened. Almost as bad appears to have been the police’s lack of interest in believing the claims. However, that’s not why Sarah Champion’s article was ridiculed. It’s the assertation that the UK has a problem with Pakistani gangs grooming and raping white girls. The UK has a problem with sexual offences against women across the board, Pakistani gangs are a small proportion of that. I don’t have any solutions to deal with the rate of sexual offences in the UK, but I doubt focussing on the 2-3% of offences that make for easy headlines in the rightwing press is going to help.

Read the whole article if you’re going post it. It said a few. Of course the few might be using that as an excuse for their own failings to protect the vulnerable.
