He’s lying. Clearly. Or he’s a fucking idiot. Clearly.

Belle and Sebastian = twee

The Pastels = twee

C86 compilation = twee

Sujfan Stevens = something that is quite quiet and melodic but not twee.

There is a school of thought that any great album only has so many ā€˜listens’ in it.

If you stop listening, Bear, you’ll leave more for the rest of us.

But before you go. Give this one a listen.

Yes, we know it’s a bit twee.

Another Sotonian member posted this the other day and I listened to it and really enjoyed it. I heard a few song, but this one was my favourite.

Hey Bletch,

I’ve seen the Handsome Family play a few times, here and in the States, and pretty much every time I come away feeling underwhelmed. I *should* like them, lots of people who like the same music as I do, like them, but it never quite happens. I guess when it comes down to it, I just think they’re a bit average.

That said, I’m hyper picky about music.

I’ve put them in my - I’m not a fan, but I’m a fan of people who are fans - category.

That’s a coincidence, because I too see you being mostly right on this forum, Cholula.

Wrong!

Fair enough, Lou.

I’m impressed that I found a little common ground between us.

The twee movement (as defined by me) is what you will experience up and down this country if you go to any venue that is running a singer songwriter or open mic session. You will usually see back to back artists with a selection of strange and unusual instruments, one of which will always be an xylophone, plus 2 acoustic guitarists and a singer with a very hushed quirky vocal style.

That, sir, is the twee movement, which I blame on Sufjan Stevens!

Yeah, I enjoyed that.

This is In the same category for me, I really shouldn’t like it, but it is just gets in my head, and then I can’t get rid of it…

…rid of it…

…rid if it…

EDIT: Different video - this is much better.

If you like The Handsome Family, you might like Neko Case. She is amazing.

To be fair, he’d probably tear apart any of the music I listen to too.

Now you’re talking, Lou.

I’ve seen Neko Kase a couple of times. Once at The Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth around about the time Middle Cyclone came out, and again last year (might have been the year before) in London.

First gig was excellent, second less so.

Her voice, and that of the backing singer/co-vocalist are absolutely stunning.

I’ll raise you this…

Yay! Neko Case is completely and utterly kick arse. I’ve seen her about ten times now, through different stages of her career and though I like some things she does more others, her gigs are always great. I think she’s a great lyricist as well.

Her backing singer is Kelly Hogan, who has her own successful career, although probably not to the same level:

Surprised you missed this one Bletch…

She’s a good friend of the band.
