Sometimes I need a Phwoar

Another classic. Damn seeing Barry Gibb perform this live at Glasto

Noooooooooooooooooooooo.
It’s a trap!
You listen to that and THIS comes up next

And you are GONE #nostalgiatrip

More young talent from Iceland (no I don’t mean a check-out girl)…

Just a wonderful singer/songwriter…should be much recognised but isn’t…

Surely this belongs on the ā€œWhat are you wanking to, etcā€ thread!

It’s now 11 years since I bought ā€œHadestownā€ an album by Anais Mitchell. It’s a musical based around the classical Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, written by Mitchell in 2006. It was toured in small provincial venues the following year and the album followed in 2010.

The album was well reviewed but hardly set the world alight…I loved it and I’m someone who habitually hates musicals. Mitchell had faith in it and reworked and expanded the stage version.

It opened off-Broadway in 2016 for a couple of months and then toured in Edmonton and London. It finally opened on Broadway in March 2019. It’s been a great success ever since winning eight awards at the Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Original Score.

I think even I’d go to see it if it came back to London.

Anais Mitchell is far right and 8 months pregnant.

Local IoW group, lot of fun…

The saddest/happiest Christmas song…

"No travel plans, no shopping malls
No candy canes, no Santa Claus
For as the day of rest draws near
It’s just the two of us this year

No silver bells or mistletoe
We’ll kiss and watch our TV shows

I’ll come to you, I’ll sing to you
Like it’s Christmas in the room
I’ll dance with you, I’ll laugh with you
'Til it’s Christmas in the room

No traffic jams, no ice and storm
Far in the house the fire is warm
No Christmas tree, no great parade
It’s just an ordinary day

No parties planned, no place to go
It’s just the two of us alone
And in the house we see a light
That comes from what we feel inside

I’ll come to you, I’ll sing to you
Like it’s Christmas in the room
I’ll dance with you, I’ll laugh with you
'Til it’s Christmas in the room
'Til it’s Christmas in the room

Oh, I can see the day when we’ll die
But I don’t care to think of silence
For now I hear you laughing
The greatest joy is like the sunrise

No gifts to give, they’re all right here
Inside our hearts, the glorious cheer
And in the house we see a light
That comes from what we know inside

I’ll come to you, I’ll sing to you
Like it’s Christmas in the room
I’ll dance with you, I’ll laugh with you
'Til it’s Christmas in the room

I’ll come to you, I’ll sing to you
Like it’s Christmas in the room
I’ll dance with you, I’ll laugh with you
Like it’s Christmas in the room
Like it’s Christmas in the room"

Someone recently said Anna B Savage has an air of Jeff Buckley about her…I hear it too.

I’m a big fan of Paddy McAloon. I think he is one of the greatest British songwriters ever, maybe the greatest. For me there’s something mystical about his music that defies analysis, perhaps that’s the definition of a great musician. He’s also the most generous and relaxed of interviewees…

This lass is on TV tonight some banging disco tunes including

New album coming in March…

What I’ve been listening to…
I have been listening to If You’re Feeling Sinister by Belle & Sebastian.

etc.
Arse biscuits.

The first song on their first album…

I’m not usually a fan of cover versions, but this recent offering is quite superb.

Essential listening for anyone who’s formative musical years hark back as far as the seventies, and a wonderful listen for anyone of any age with an interest in the early years of punk. A Scotty Rating of 10/10. :+1::+1::+1:

I’ve watched this vid in chunks over the last couple of days. It’s a genuinely fascinating peek into a man at his peak (as he admits himself).

The first Belle and Sebastian album I did end to end was ā€œDear Catastrophe Waitressā€, which I still really love. If You’re Feeling Sinister does have a hint of the unknowable about it though, with each listen giving a fresh perspective.

It really is cat music; it’s not accessible by the standards of the time. It doesn’t give a fuck whether you like it or not. But when you like it, it purrs.

The first Belle & Sebastian song I heard was ā€œThe State I’m Inā€ on Mark & Lard’s graveyard shift and by the time it finished I was in tears. Some songs are like that for me, they draw you in and you’re hooked.

Don’t dismiss their recent stuff…this song was written about the birth of Stuart’s son…
