This song reminds me of a business trip to Florida with some colleagues, sitting outside a bar and listening to two guys on acoustic guitars playing live. They played a lot of Matchbox Twenty covers.
We had a really great night which culminated in us clubbing together to give the two guys $100 to let one of our number (an excellent singer-songwriter) use a guitar to play some Brtish toons. (Oasis and The Verve if memory serves).
When I lived in Glastonbury I used to frequent an old pub called the George and Pilgrim. One night I was in there with some mates when a traveller came in busking with his guitar. One of his songs caught my ear; the lyrics seemed a bit odd but I liked the tune. Anyway, the next week when I was in the same pub with Mrs Stickman and a couple who were visiting us, the same traveller came in and I asked him if he would sing the song about the horse that he’d sung the week before. Much to my surprise he went down on one knee at my feet and serenaded me In front of the whole pub. Here is Christy Moore’s version of the song:
Thanks for the song and the story Halo…enjoyed it.
It put me in mind of this Calexico song recorded in 2001…it’s an American lullaby…
Heard this on the radio earlier.
I thought to myself: “This is interesting, I’m quite enjoying it. It’s got that 90’s La’s feel I like, seems rather en vogue at the minute. I should look this band up”.
So I did. Discovered the oldest member of the band is 12. THEY WEREN’T EVEN ALIVE IN THE 90’S!!! Bloody kids.
Link to the song. Dunno if you can/how to embed soundcloud here. Have asked his papness.
I do like this. But it’s sad watching it - I had a Fender Jag exactly like the one he’s playing (though left-handed) but let it go. A beautiful sunburst '64 vintage with (for the real nerds) an ‘A’ neck. Extremely rare and lovely sounding (listen to the arpeggios in this song and you get the picture).
I love these “Tiny Desk Concerts” some great performances…click on the YouTube “Subscribe” button.
My favourite is the Wilco concert from 3 years ago…
