Like this cover from Alt-Jās new album.
after set their set up at the crows nest the other night, I got chatting to some aussie guy. Iāve no idea if the following is true or Not, and no way to verify it. But it was a fun story, and believable, so Iāll share it.
He said he knew some of the guys back in Oz. Apparently they were all previously in other bands and started King Gizzard as a joke band. Their original hook was that all their songs were constructed with just 1 word and 1 chord.
As I said, dunno if it is true, but I do kinda hope it is.
Anyone see the Lemon Twigs at Glasto?
Edit: Donāt worry just found their set on iPlayerā¦brilliant.
This video is just greatā¦
You mean you missed my Glasto review post?
Canāt imagine why
But yes, I did. Lots of fun was had too
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the plethora of musical experiences on offer at Glastonbury have shaken me off my staples of misogynistic tight-panted bare-chested 70s rock.
The biggest winners would have to be The Magic Numbers. I only caught ten minutes of their set, but Iāve listened to their first album quite extensively in the time since.
Now Iāll openly admit to being in a post Glastonbury emotionally fragile state. This little number has produced pap tears on the M62 this week.
Iām such a soft bastard.
Did they play this year? I didnāt see them on the bill, though itās pretty easy to miss people.
Would explain why I thought I saw the frontman in the John Peel though.
The Magic Numbers were great - especially that first album. I think itās their dual-vocal style that makes them sound so good, that song being a perfect example. Managed to catch them live a couple of times during their heyday and they always put on a good show, actually surprised that theyāre still playing because I thought theyād disbanded a few years ago!
As for me, iāve been revisiting Kendrick Lamarās DAMN. recently - mostly because of the video he released for ELEMENT the other day.
And a great breakdown of the imagery and production of the video itself from the fantastic Nerdwriter:
Yeah, I liked that first album too. They were always a bit corny, but in a pleasantly enjoyable way. Caught them at a festival once (really canāt remember which) and remember it was a brilliantly fun sing-a-long.
I fucking love Kendrick.
Oh also @pap , as for post-glasto states. You should have seen the state of me at the final maccabees gig last night.
More on that laterā¦
Tempted to vote you down as my soon to be exwife went with some cunt while I looked after our daughter.
Donāt worry Cellā¦you were just speeding the downward path of the cunt for countless years of misery . Well done.
⦠as always, a sucker for a gal with a pretty voice eh GB.
Me too
When I see a load of randoms bopping away like this I realise how absolutely wonderful music is.
