Stately, plump Buck Mulligan came from the stairhead, bearing a bowl of lather on which a mirror and a razor lay crossed.

Fantastic stuff - there’s a quick glimpse of the stunningly beautiful Lena Horne in there, though she features more in the full short film of that tune. Pete Johnson, of the magnificently expressive face, formed a great partnership with Big Joe Turner, the great blues shouter. Here’s one of theirs:

And, for a bit more of Lena Horne, here she is with Louis Jordan. Not singing, as she was an actress, just looking great sitting on the piano.

The zoot suit in all its glory - just look at those trousers. tight at the waist, out to god knows what width at the knee, then down to a tight ankle. and a long, voluminous jacket on top (known at the time as a killer-diller jacket). During the second world war, when cloth was rationed, people were arrested for wearing such attire.

All this talk of zoot suits can only make me think of this classic. Not strictly a music thing, it has to be said, but what the hell…

Some heavy-ish stuff. First up, Fucked Up. The Other Shoe. A glorious cacophony.

Next up, Redneck by Lamb of God, who prove that you can mix scantily clad females, metal and children’s parties. To a degree.

Real talent.

I loved that performance 'slowlane - although the God stuff I could do without. I’ll look into more by him.

Got this on at the moment.

One of my favourite bands from the 90s - and beyond although Adam Duritz’s troubles left them a little less potent.

Yes I should go to the gig in Brighton in January. Just downloaded the new album this morning (out today)…I’ll be listening whilst walking the dog

ā€œStar Warsā€ surprise new 11 track album from Wilco!..and it’s free

A favourite of mine, Chvrches, are back. Purveyors of 80’s synth-pop and making Glaswegian accents sound alluring. This track doesn’t suggest a huge leap, or new direction. Perhaps more of the same, but I liked what they had to start with, so it’s all good for me.

Really enjoying the new Jason Isbell album. Another track from it…

I really want to like Jason Isbell. It’s the sort of music I like. I have friends in Austin who are good mates of his and rave about him. He gets amazing reviews.

But it just doesn’t happen. I find him heavy handed and a bit depressing. :frowning:

Give the new one a listen…more uplifting than the last.

Will do, lifeintheslowlane, I’ll give it a go. Though hard to sense uplifting in the track you linked to above!

Maybe the difference between being depressed and not being depressed
