Especially in context. Civil liberties have been salami sliced away. The US, like us, has a separate legal standard for anyone deemed a terrorist. He’s doubling down, his supporters will be buoyant and I worry for his political opponents. I’ve long argued that the reduction of civil liberties and increased militarisation, home or abroad, would provide a useful toolset for a budding tyrant.
In the specific case of the United States, I’m on record as saying that Homeland Security is an extremely bad idea. The entire US system was based on a series of checks and balances, agencies of independent and equal power able to check the other. That all ended when Bush and cronies put Homeland Security over the top of it.
Look like Trump has all that and more, especially with the purging of the State Department and the express executive orders to order. Permission for lip to quiver, @btripz .
