:trumpdumb: Trumped!

He’s there for 4 years. It’s democracy. He’ll do some stupid shit (although not too extreme), and then he’ll go.

I think people are overstating what is actually happening. As we know from Obama being in power, the President actually has very little scope with very controversial laws (see gun laws etc).

Calm down, it’ll be fine, and we’ll actually get a good trade deal out of it.

It’s getting dangerous already if you have any affection for civil liberties and justice.

Six journalists have been arrested and charged with rioting offences because they were kettled while recording rioting in Washington on his first day.

Passers by were also kettled, arrested and charged - just for being there.

The gurning clown has become a dangerous man.

Yeah, but Clinton would have been just as bad! :lou_angry:

Nobody honestly argued that did they? However, somebody might said that Hillary was the absolute worst possible candidate to put up against Trump, with an electorate so obviously disenchanted with Washington insiders…

It was an opinion I read on here from more than one source if I recall correctly. Ie. one is as bad as the other.

Plenty did on my Facebook feed.

Blimey - did they? This is why I don’t read these political threads, they’re too depressing (just ones on toilet humour, popular culture, where to go for drinks and, very occassionally, football)

But now I’m here - that first press conference was more scary than his inauguration speech - they just said that we absolutely don’t care what’s true and what’s not - and never mind you holding us to account, we’re reversing that. Poses enourmous problems for the news media

If you’re going to listen…listen all the way through.

It’ll be an Uncomfortable Truth situation if he ends up doing a Gd Job srs. I can’t see anyone wanting to report on that. Ppl seem more prejudice against the Trump, than he is against the Mexicans. I mean, I know he chats a lot of shit, but of all the things he’s actually done so far, the only one I really object to is his haircut. But then maybe I am more open-minded + moral + chapel kate + just generally better human being, than all You Cunts.

Wow - the Trump supporters are out. :astonished:

Not even a little bit concerned about innocent people being arrested?

Really? Who would you class as a Trump supporter?

The major difference between Trump and Clinton is that the media actively want to report the negative stuff about Trump. He is, however, a massive and dangerous tool, but those painting Clinton in a whiter-than-white light are deluded if they think she wouldn’t also have been dangerous. Not dangerous to Americans, maybe, but still dangerous.

So then, it has started already. Not only have Donald’s people changed pictures from his inauguration for those of the previous one to cover up the lack of numbers, but his press briefings are clearly more than economical with the truth and aren’t giving the journos a chance to ask questions at certain briefings. Nazi Germany all over again? We need to keep an eye on this shit!

I think Trump is a cunt, no doubt. But using this sort of vernacular only dilutes the arguments against him. There been plenty of examples on social media, but he aint Hitler. Not having a pop at you particularly SOG, but this whole comparision seems way OTT to me.

He’ll get off to a boisterous start, then he’ll blow out and get bored because it takes sooooo long to get anything sanctioned through the House, instead diverting his attention to trying to scuttle a couple of dozen interns a week on the QT. By the time his 4 years are up he’ll have got some knob disease or tongue cancer through cunnilingus (like Michael Douglas) and fuck off to present another crap US version of a TV import show. That’s my prediction, anyway.

Is that likely? I didn’t know Trump was doing that.

I’m ok with innocent people being arrested in general terms, the Police aren’t always to know if someone is 100% guilty, they arrest them and then they question them, and that is how they Find Out.

Hitler also started by locking up journalists and protesters.

So Bearsy, you would be happy if you were innocently walking through Soho tugging yourself off outside shop windows, when a mob ran through smashing the place up - you were then arrested with them, imprisoned, interviewed and charged with rioting?

These journalists were arrested, interviewed, released on bail and have now been charged, and are facing ten year jail terms.

I’m surprised that some on here think that silencing dissent through these avenues is okay.

I dunno if I would blame the Trump man though, would I? I spose I’d be annoyed with Police, I spose I’d be annoyed with Rioting Mob, I spose I’d be annoyed that I didn’t have more sense to take myself out of the way. And if I did get conviction, I’d be annoyed with The Courts and My Lawyer.

I’m just starting from a position that Trump is less evil than Hitler. It is a grace period that I give to All Men.

Also right now it is very “Trendy” to be anti-Trump. Kinda like being a Bremainer - not gonna get invited to many dinner parties in Sloan Square.

Yet for every rant there are some quite thoughtful posts (that sane people don’t share or retweet) about Trump for example asking why the fuck the US went and screwed up half the planet.

I had my tongue partly in cheek with the Nazi comment, but this shit starts somewhere and Trump hasnt got off to the greatest start has he? Encouraging people to beat up his oppenents, playing to the very lowest denominator, playing the race card big time, shouting down the media, creating his own “truth” as he goes along (and there is a big difference with being “economical with the truth” and “alternative facts.” I’m sure we have all read 1984 and I would imagine poor old Orwell is spinning in his grave right now. This bloke might not be another Hitler, but he is very dangerous. He is empowering the nutters from the far right everytime he opens his mouth. I really dont think this is going to end well…hopefully for him.

Not sure about the “trendy” thing Phil. More like “what the fucking hell is happening” thing!

It’s possible to be critical of both though, isn’t it? It’s also appropriate to hold a politician to a decent standard of honesty, rather than just ‘move on’. And it’s also possible to do something reactive about present needs (as I’m sure many of us do), while also seeking to prevent the creaton of future problems.
