Well, it certainly hasn’t been boring.
I’ve stopped watching most of my scripted shows. At the pace things are going, it’s difficult enough keeping up with real life.
I suppose the biggest wave for us Europeans was J. D. Vance’s speech at the Munich Security Council, which I actually watched live.
I’m honestly a bit conflicted. As someone who has long moaned about the level of US influence in European politics, being able to have an independent foreign policy should be a good thing.
Then I look at the fucking clump of a PM we’ve got, who is unilaterally deciding that sending British troops to peace-keep in the Ukrainian rump is a good idea.
I do wonder whether any of these posh schools or unis these MPs seem to go to cover history at all. If they did, our MPs might know that the last people to have a go at the Russians and actually succeed long-term were the Mongols.

Yesterday some senior military bod was warning that the UK don’t have enough manpower for duties in Ukraine and the government should start making plans for conscription. I wouldn’t put that past Genghis Keir,( good one by the way, it’s certainly got a ring to it!). Absolute fucking madness.

I don’t know whether Putin will go for a general war, but I do know that they’re very dangerous now. Actually fought a battle with modern gear, which is not something that many 21st century powers can claim.
People keep mentioning similarities with Poland and in some respects it is similar.
Both Ukraine of 2022 and Poland of 1939 were both emboldened by a lot of the West providing cast-iron guarantees that they’d be saved in the event of trouble. This made both more belligerent in negotiations than they would have been.
It was bollocks. We were unable to save Poland in 1939, so fuck knows why anyone thought we’d be able to save Ukraine.
What a great idea, eh? All it cost was the post-war consensus.

Merkel is East German, with living memory of the Warsaw Pact, and has been a staunch opponent of Ukraine getting into NATO as she knew it was a massive red line.
Shw was against NATO membership for Georgia too.
