:trumpdumb: Trumped!

Part of the problem is that he has had 4 years to seed the congress and senate with like minded people. Those are the people that need dealing with and maybe the Republican party should withdraw the whip (or whatever they call it these days) as they come up for re-election

I think Trump has overplayed his hand here - he won’t be forgiven in a hurry. A lot of people are out to get him - talking criminal proceedings. Too many senior Republicans are lining up against him.

Turns out loyalty to the constitution means more to a lot of republicans than loyalty to Trump. Plus Trump found out that loyalty to the rule of law means more to a Supreme court judge than any kind of loyalty to him

Then there is the age factor. He may not live that long - he will be 78 when its time to run again. More worrying is that his son will be put forward as the messiah

Well done Donald - way to go

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Thursday that the chaos unleashed on the US Capitol by US counterpart Donald Trump’s supporters exposed the fragility of Western democracy.

“What we saw in the United States yesterday (Wednesday) evening and today shows above all how fragile and vulnerable Western democracy is,” President Rouhani said in a speech broadcast by state television.

“Their democracies aren’t strong and despite being advanced technologically, they have tendency to populism. A populist man came and damaged the reputation of his country. [Trump] dealt severe blows to the American system,” he continued.

Even Priti condemns him, accurately

If only the 73 million Trump supporters in the US could see themselves as the rest of the world has seen their country for the last 4 years. So much for making America great again! Trump has set their standing in the world back years.

Let’s hope that she takes heed and modifies her statements in future!

Interesting apparent evidence coming out that

  1. The police opened barriers to let the mob in.
  2. It was well-planned. Groups headed straight for specific targets: key personnel (they had cable ties, suggesting intention to take hostages), the vital paperwork.
  3. They had good knowledge of the building.
  4. Trump refused deployment of the National Guard, which was requested well in advance.
  5. Convenient and unnecessarily scaffolding was in place and used to access the building.
  6. There are photos on social media of police taking selfies with Trump supporters.

Strong suggestion that this was meticulously planned, with high-level co-operation, with the intention of stopping the legal process by removing paperwork and possibly taking hostage all those able to preside.

This was no spontaneous random protest.

I’ve seen it reported that it was Pence who finally authorised the call out of the National Guard

True. Pence and others took over control when Trump refused to act.

So no mention from Trump so far about the fatalities? Shows how much he cares about the people who are prepared to lay down their lives for him!

On the other hand without proof it would seem far more likely the police pulled back for safety reasons and mob rule ensued.

I agree democracy has always and always will be fragile, Iran is a religious tyranny though so we can’t really as the West take lectures from them.

He’ll probably stand next time, I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest.

Possibly. But does pulling back for safety reasons require selfies with the invaders?

I don’t know but does it constitute wide spread collusion as well?

As I have always said irrespective of views, what is more likely?

We’ll probably never know. But it’s certain that security was deliberately lax.

Contrast the response to the preparations made for the BLM protests in Washington

Some of those who work forces are the same that burn crosses.

There is no contrast as it is a different thing altogether, police allow these things on occasion if they feel more life would be threatened.

Yes they probably do, and?
