:tories: Tories in trouble?

So the sad little weirdo in No 10 has this afternoon addressed the nation in a hastily arranged press conference on his podium in Downing St, calling on the country to “come together to beat the poison of extremists targeting democracy”. He warned there were “forces at home trying to tear us apart, and we must face them down”. He called the result in Rochdale “beyond alarming”. In other words Sunak sees any opposition to the Tories as an extremist threat. But the only attacks on democracy has come from the Tories and their extreme right wing nutters like Sunak, Braverman, Bad Enoch, Lee Anderson and co. The Tories are the extremists and they are the biggest threat to us and our democracy. This is classic gaslighting by the little weirdo, the truth is that the majority of the country do not support and are appalled by the genocidal actions of Israel in Gaza, are we all extremists? There has been an immediate backlash including a Conservative peer saying, “many in the Tory party should look to themselves” when it comes to the toxification of public life. And the Liberal Democrats said British people will take no lectures from a Conservative party who have sowed the seeds of division over issues like the plan to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda. Keir Starmer, surprise surprise, in a statement has appeared to back Sunak saying,“The Prime Minister is right to advocate unity and condemn the unacceptable and intimidatory behaviour that we have seen recently”. As Galloway said eloquently last night in his victory speech, “Sunak and Starmer, two cheeks of the same backside”. He’s not wrong there.

Let’s hope to fuck the Tories don’t get people to fall for this guff / and Starmer doesn’t fuck up the vote any more than he’s done already.

Why can’t there be a party that respects truth, decency and wants to do what’s right for everyone in the UK. It shouldn’t be difficult…

It’s not only difficult, it’s impossible. Our society is more polarised now than it’s ever been in my lifetime, I’d say even more so than the Thatcher years and the miners strikes. Add to that the gaping chasm between what any faction of the public wants and what our political classes believe they should have, and you end up with results like last night. To be fair, Galloway was always going to be in with a decent shout of a result by riding the anti-Israel wave and playing up to the high percentage of Muslims in Rochdale.

Well, what’s the phrase “nothing is impossible, the word itself says I’m Possible” ( ©️ @OzSaintDave  )

It’s more about restoring the will of the population, which the Tories have systematically destroyed - largely started by Thatcher

Imho.

Look what happened when the population expressed its will in 2016. That’s a good example of the near complete disconnect between politicians and the public.

If only you could have a benevolent Dictator…

But seriously.

There is simply one law change that will make a difference.

Fund Political Parties from the Public Purse. All other bank accounts & spending are illegal.

Just cynically rephrased that for you.

You can turn anything around to fit into any narrow world view - mine included- hardly worth any of us engaging in meaningless political point scoring exercises these days

I’m still going to shout out on every Tory fuck up though

:joy:

That line gets trotted out relentlessly, while doggedly ignoring the fact that only one party had an official line of Leave, and that was a single issue party formed to campaign for nothing else. Every mainstream party, tories included, actively campaigned in favour of Remain. The BBC was as partisan as I’ve ever seen them in supporting that position. But, a majority still voted for something they’d never have otherwise supported, because those highly respected figures Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage, Michael Fabricant, all those big hitters, wrote on the side of a bus that they’d give the subscription moneys paid to the EU into the NHS instead. And because of the political gravitas and elder statesman respect the entire nation held these characters in, more than half the country was taken in. :unamused::joy::joy:

Or perhaps, just perhaps, more people preferred to be governed by complete wankers we elect here than by complete wankers we have no say in electing. It’s a possibility.

I genuinely don’t know if you are a dyed in the wool Brexiteer.

I didn’t vote in the referendum. My view was pretty much what we were being pressed towards, ie we’d all have more money in the bank by staying in and we shouldn’t bother our thick heads with any notions of voting for who runs our economy or decides our laws. I don’t have any children myself, and I’m not really bothered enough about the present generation to worry about their democratic rights ten or twenty years from now when I’ll be dead anyway, so I’d probably have voted Remain for the money had I voted at all. However, I was genuinely impressed when the electorate rejected the invitation to vote with it’s bank account in favour of points of principle, regardless of one’s opinion of those principles. Nobody, but nobody, predicted that. Remain was an inevitable and foregone conclusion until it, ahem, wasn’t.

Indeed, but you can’t legislate for stupidity (imho).

The powers that be certainly didn’t legislate for the reaction they got to the most hysterically smug exercise in patronisation this country has ever witnessed. If nothing else, it fills me with joy to see the disbelief and horror of the Stephen Fry Literati, still continuing nearly eight years later. It was worth the few quid it cost me just for that.:smile:

It cost some people a lot more than a few quid.

It sent us to a nightmare of exile

Fucking hell….no consultation or discussion.

This Government is out of control imho

They’ve been out of control for a while. The epitome of extremism can be seen from the utterings of Braverman, Lee Anderson, Mary Truss et al. But not a peep from Sunak, indeed he mostly doubles down on their vile utterings. They know they are going to be wiped out when the election comes so all that’s left for them is to pitch people against each other and hope that “something turns up”. I really wouldn’t put it past the evil fuckers to create a national emergency situation, whereby they will postpone an election. It’s all they have left. This is not as far fetched as people may think. The interesting question though regarding Gove and his war against ‘extremists’, is will Starmer make it quite clear that an incoming Labour government would immediately repeal any such legislation. My hunch is that he would not, because the bottom line with him is that he is cut from the same cloth as Sunak when it comes to dealing with opposition to his right wing, pro-Zionist without reservation views. He had no hesitation in stating that Israel had every right to with hold power, food and medicines to Palestinians. The inevitable result of this appeasement to Netanyahu’s fascist regime is what we see today, children actually dying of hunger in Palestine in 2024.

And what is the response from the Tories? A spokesman for Sunak says he has apologized so that is the end of the matter. He also said that Diane Abbot should be shot. Surely this is hate speech, incitement to violence, which is a crime. A Conservative spokesperson said," Mr Hester has made it clear that while he was rude, his criticism had nothing to do with her gender nor the colour of her skin. he has since apologised".
Mr Hester was awarded an OBE by Lord Cameron.
Any Conservative voters care to comment on this?

Not from Starmer’s crew, she doesn’t. Currently suspended for antisemitism, and racism against gypsies and the Irish.

Starmer wringing his hands this morning on ITVs Lorraine telling her that “The comments about Diane Abbott are just abhorrent. Diane has been a trailblazer, she has paved the way for others, she’s probably faced more abuse than any other politician over the years on a sustained basis”.
All true of course, but coming from Starmer they amount to just weasel words. He couldn’t wait to ex communicate Diane Abbott from the Labour Party, as he has with so many good and decent members on the left who won’t bow down to his authoritarian right wing views. He’s a hypocrite of the first order.
