No. I’m saying that in my humble opinion, Sunak is not comparable with Hitler and Braverman has some way to go to catch up with Goebbels. When the current administration starts sending immigrants to concentration camps, I’ll change my mind.
But do you agree that Braverman and Sunak are starting to play the anti immigrant/foreigner card to whip up support from the xenophobes in the UK to try and stop Labour and other parties going more and more support? It seems like it to me.
They know the policy will get shot down in flames but they’re just playing the “at least we tried something” trick knowing full well it’s a crock of shit.
Imho of course.
Of course they are. This is politics, they’re hideously unpopular, there’s an election looming and they’ll clutch at any straw they can. It just annoys me slightly when gobshites like Lineker devalue horrific concepts like Nazism by cheerfully hurling comments like his around. However shit they are, and they are shit, the current tories are not a nazi administration in the making.
Lineker = New Le Tissier maybe ???
Hmmm
Nope don’t reply…
Fvck it
@scotty Lineker referred to a date LONG before concentration camps.
He will get sacked & pelters but his analogy is not totally wrong re the messaging of that era.
And it’s one reason I’m stuck in this hell hole of rural Poland
Because of Lineker???
I doubt that very much. The BBC have already pointed out that he’s a freelancer, and not employed by them.
Obviously because he scored a hat-trick against them in 86 World Cup.
And of course it’s worth pointing out that what Lineker actually said is being ,I think deliberately, misquoted. He didn’t liken the government’s immigration policy to Nazi Germany, as most of the MSM, especially the neutered BBC are saying. He compared the LANGUAGE used by Braverman as being similar to the language used in 1930’s Germany. Which of course, as any student of the history of 1930’s Germany knows is undisputedly true, as Map-of-Mauritania has pointed out. And as for accusing Lineker of dog whistling, that really is a bit rich, the only dog whistling is being done by Sunak and especially Braverman who is surely the dog whistler’s dog whistler. They know exactly what they are doing, with the government’s standing at rock bottom, miles behind in the polls, local elections looming, this is all they have left. It’s desperate stuff, an appeal to their core base and the knuckle draggers in the so called red wall seats who were dancing in the streets after the Lying Oaf was elected because they believed he would send the ‘Moooslims’ packing. The fact remains that, as been pointed out by many qualified people here and in Europe, this immigration policy is unworkable, it will do absolutely nothing to solve the immigration and people trafficking problems. These charlatans masquerading as a government know this, it’s not the point of it, it’s all about electoral damage limitation, a desperate appeal to the lowest common denominator in our society. And to a certain extent it will work, just watch.
The only conceivable point of equating the political language being used in 1930s Germany with the rhetoric being used here today is that 1930s Germany became Hitler, the Nazis, and the Holocaust. There’s literally no other point in him picking 1930s Germany as a comparison.
Partly it is a policy designed to be so unappealing that in acts as a deterrent - the desired outcome is that the migrants would not be clambering in to boats and claim asylum in France. I suspect the govt would be delighted if that didn’t have to send one migrant to Rwanda or wherever else they identify
The other part of the policy is pure electioneering - the bill will be put on the table, Labour will defeat it in the Lords if not the commons and Keir will look weak on illegal migration and that will play to electorate who are impacted
Freelancers are still bound by the BBC code of conduct
He might not be a freelancer for long - HMRC are pursuing him for £5m as they maintain he is a disguised employee
Gary Lineker - pundit, social warrior, tax dodger
It’s probably a bit naive to think it’ll solve the problem. Isn’t the real issue the traffickers, who’ll just think up another jolly wheeze to “guarantee” migrants can get to the UK. Quite why they still want to these days beyond me
That might be in the short term, although when word gets out that all your £5000 gets you is a near lethal boat trip followed by a one way flight to the arse end of Africa, it might work
As for why they want to come here - shit Britain is still better that dodging bombs somewhere or goat herding in Albania
But why don’t they stop in France or any other safe country they travel through after leaving their own country? We need to drop the Great from Great Britain, because it ain’t these days.
English language will be one reason
Hard to get deported from - I suspect we top the league of countries that cannot winkle you out once you are there
Mainly because we’re about the only country left without compulsory id cards.
Yer, but it’s against me ‘uman rights to be forced to ‘ave one, innit.
Absolutely. If you’ve nothing to hide, you’ve nothing to fear.
Incidentally, on your earlier point regarding why any of the immigrants would wish to come here at all, I noticed some figures earlier that I found implausible, so I looked it up on the Home Office pages. In 2017, about 300 people annually were arriving by these small boats. That figure started rising sharply in 2018, and now stands at 45000. There’s got to be a reason for that happening, regardless of how one perceives the effects. My own guess (and it’s a guess, nothing more) would be that the referendum result basically ruled out further EU integration, and therefore ID cards.
I’ve carried an ID card for nigh on 25 years now.
Tbh it’s a lot easier than finding old bank statements house deeds, electric bills etc.
Also gets me through immigration about 30 minutes faster than you lot when I come back to Krakow
