A lot to take on board from yesterday’s Cum-splash.
Boris Johnson is about as shit as we thought
Matt Hancock, unbelievably, is even shitter than we thought and appears to be a serial liar.
Rishi Sunak is practically perfect in every way (according to Dom).
But the thing that really floored me was the frank discussion concerning government’s actions killing people, even putting a number on it.
Sure enough, the message is going to be undermined by the messenger but I do wonder how much. He’s always been dodgy on the grounds of Barnard Castle, but with the glaring exception of Rishi Sunak, his evidence is going to segue with a lot of what we all remember.
Bit on Newsnight here. Dominic Cummings could have an axe the size of Littlehampton to grind, but it will not change the historical record and Hancock seems bang to rights.
Hancock is finished and will be used as the scapegoat for everything else
Boris was in hospital around this time so will claim a degree of hors de combat, plus he is known to favour managing by cabinet, ie health was Hancock’s brief - its his responsibility- if my health minister is lying to me - how can it be my fault etc
The question is will Boris hold on to him to throw him to the wolves after the inquiry or cut bait now
The only way in which this mattered is why a PM needed to pull this level of money from other sources. Even if it’s three times what was reported, it is still under 250k, once Boris’ salary for his Telegraph column, which he described as “chicken-feed”.
Cummings also spoke of financial issues with the PM and there have been prior reports that he might have been skint, like his hero Winston Churchill.
Fuck everything else; that’s the most concerning issue. He was reportedly doing his gratuitious commentary on Shakespeare, no doubt because there is some financial incentive involved.
He’s got status but no cash. He’s going to us that status to get cash, and while John Lewis incinerations might not excite the public, the fact that our PM is permanently up for compromise should be.
