:tories: Tories in trouble?

The Electoral Commission has just fined the Conservatives 70K for missing payments of at least 104K, 118K of incorrectly reported expenses, plus another 52K that there are no receipts and invoices for.

The Met Police are still conducting their own investigations.

Ā£70k for power.

That’s a good deal if you ask me.

That’s what I’ve told Mrs G. One more pay rise.

That’s the fear, isn’t it?

It’s the largest fine that has ever been issued.

Tks for video. I was wondering what sort of people would volunteer to go on a fkn Tory battle bus.

White van drivers everywhere rejoice.

Lol, Party of the Damned.

Shame. I prefer the van driver’s lament.

So with this electoral expenses issue and putting aside party politics for a mo

If someone from party hq tells a local candidate don’t worry about those expenses, they are covered by the national campaign fund, and the candidate believes him, then it turns out it was incorrect - the party get fined and the candidate could go to jail???

It does seem totally unfair on the candidate

Probably easier not to cheat in the first place.

My point is that if the candidate was acting in good faith based upon the direction. Of the central party hq he wouldn’t be aware he was cheating

Please. In many cases, we’re talking sitting MPs.

They’re fully aware of the rules.

It does make the party look bad.

Don’t disagree with your point @pap but @cb-saint is correct about how it will be perceived. It makes central office look like a nasty bunch of shits and that’s towards their own people. Something for the electorate to consider.

The party looks bad because it cheated. On a general election. In key marginals. Most were shocked that the Conservatives managed to get their tiny majority.

The other point I’d make is that the candidates are not political newbs. It’ll have taken all of them years to get to a point where they are selected to contest a seat. They’re not idiots.

Agree completely. Just think the way they are handling it will open a few eyes to the kind of people they really are. Mays treatment of Hammond just emphasises it perfectly. Nasty people that will shit on their own Mothers with no guilt.

Your lot need to use this now. Big opportunity.

So Osborne is going to edit the evening standard 4 days a week. I assume with wage. On top of the money from helping the bank? Plus is MP wage. Not bad.

I like that the newspaper have picked him because he’s a Londoner. Wonder how his constituents in Cheshire feel.
