:tories: Tories in trouble?

Many in the sub prime mortgage market were absolutely desperate for a basic human right, a home, they weren’t told the small print had no education in such matters and were taken advantage of, it is a massive example of capitalism pissing all over the small man. Desperate people do desperate illogical things.

Again, as with above, defending peoples ignorance in such matters. Did these mortgages work any differently to the way they worked 20 years before, or after? These people had access to the Internet to find out how these mortgages work?

Cherts, valiant, but do remember that it was on this thread that we were told the economy definitely is not growing. And then, that if there is any growth, it is only in low paid, unskilled, zero hour contract work. So now its the case that anyone defaulting on their loan or credit card was uneducated, desperate and blatantly taken advantage of. Never mind that I dealt with hundreds of such defaults personally and they could not have involved a more diverse range of circumstances and backgrounds.

You’re one hard nosed bastard, taking advantage of people desperate is a fucking disgrace, I suppose you applaud Turkey’s booming life raft industry? Is Jordan Belfort your hero?

What are you talking about, taking advantage? The banks were selling a product, and a lot of people overstretched themselves through greed. You do realise that if someone defaults on a mortgage, the bank is losing out on a hell of a lot of money? They didn’t want people to fail. You seem to think people were tricked into taking mortgages, which they certainly weren’t.

I find your references to the migrant crisis in incredibly bad taste by the way.

Exactly, you’re the only person here with direct experience, but hey ho, people will believe what they want to believe, contrary to fact.

Your missing the very point of responsible lending, were the banks responsible lending to people who couldn’t afford it? I find your blasé and flippant attitude to disgraceful behaviour distasteful.
And by the way I fucking stand by every word of it Jordan.

IIRC, you had one person telling you that we weren’t growing. I made the point that growth isn’t inherently a good thing, as everything is included, good and bad. That point was ignored.

You glossed over the most intelligent post on the thread, possibly the site (bletch’s breakdown of the financial crisis) to spin back onto something that was discussed weeks ago. You’ve had the purpose, existence and efficacy of the credit system explained three times (please God, don’t let us get to six - special Corbyn rules kick in then ). That translates to “anyone defaulting on their loan or credit card was uneducated, desperate and blatantly taken advantage of”.

No-one said that. The fact that you’ve tried to make out that someone has demonstrates the fragility of your argument. Some very decent points were put to you and I had some reasonably high hopes that we were going to see, for perhaps the first time ever, a cogent defence of the right. That did not happen.

Instead, it’s the same ol’ blame the poor rhetoric, coupled with “I worked as a debt collector so I know what it’s like”. For Sotonians next trick, perhaps we should solicit the views of coppers on criminals or screws on inmates. We’d end up with a similar result.

Do remember that when you try to misrepresent people’s views so wholly, you’ll probably get called up on it :lou_lol:

To be fair Barry, out of all the people on this forum I think your opinion is the one I take least notice of anyway.

But that’s fine, nobody should have any responsibility over their own life, financially and morally. If someone gives you the opportunity to do something, whether it’s illegal or just plain stupid, the responsibility is on the person who presented that opportunity, not the person who took it on. People like you are enablers for our fucked up blame society.

So by your thoughts drug dealers aren’t breaking the law?
Slave traders who use people for sex are blameless its the person buying the sex?

You Sir are a moron and fuck me I never thought I would be saying that.

I thought this site frowned on personal insults? A lot of em flying around!

We used to, but when we called for it to be stopped, that was characterised as stifling debate.

You can’t win, Lou. The only solution, just as it was with Global Thermonuclear War (or tic tac toe) is not to play at all.*

*WarGames was a hugely influential film for me. There may actually be other solutions.

I think you need to take a step back, read the thread again and think. As ever you’ve jumped in half cocked halfway through a discussion, and got yourself all mixed up.

I said earlier in the thread that it was mainly the banks fault, and that they did wrong, BUT, I also feel that people also need to take responsibility for their own mistakes.

Of course selling drugs is an offence. But so is buying them. That analogy just proves the point I’ve put forward on this thread??

Well, Barry’s involved innit. He struggles to debate eloquently, so reverts to type and starts throwing insults around.

No I didn’t, don’t misinterpret me thank you very much.

I try to only start throwing insults around after I’ve been insulted, tis one of my rules. But then again you are the king of hypocrisy, so you may know what you’re talking about.

This is actually evident with the debates I have with KRG. Neither of us ever insult each other,so we have proper debates, even though our political and moral compass is diametrically opposed.

Lou I get called a bellend left, right and centre, I dont give a shite, why should others if they are talking selfish gash?

Like I said, you can’t win, although I think that’s probably my problem. I’m starting to suspect that I live in a different reality to most people. All my former critics on TSW could be right.

I have no fucking clue what’s going down on Earth Prime atm, but in my reality, Sotonians started out as a site where everybody was nice. After a bunch of nice people complained that the standard of debate was slipping below nice, we had an exit. At that point, we decided that people could say whatever they liked and we’d all have to live with it.

Here’s what really makes me think my existence may just be a pile of imagined, solipsist shit. In this reality, I’ve had people complain about opposite things. It’s so fucked up that one day, we’re being praised for being nice, on another, we’re condemned for not being nasty enough, and later on, we’re asked why we’re not nice anymore.

I can only hope that whatever dimensions my fellow Sotonians are ekeing out their existence in are more coherent than mine.

That is simply not true but carry on with your selfish yuppie bollcoks Jordan. If you go back through all my posts you’ll actually find I register pretty low on here for insults, your selfish individualist bollocks on the other hand merits insults and I believe I should be fairly rewarded for calling you a moron, if for irony alone.

Because it makes for shit debate? Now, are you going to carry on debating with all the facts, or like with the debate on the Spanish income taxes, are you going to slope off and ignore what’s been said because you’re wrong?
