BBC still saying 243 though
Theyāre the most conservative in giving a result, theyāre impartial and have to be sure.
This is true.
Wouldnāt want Trump to sneak in unexpectedly
Nevada stopped counting (not due to legal action, just having a break) - twitter loving it
What does this mean for the UK?
Biden will take a more pragmatic but tougher stance on our future trade deal, heāll be a far tougher proposition with China and Russia also, need a strong but fair leader of the US, the dream team for me would be Michelle Obama and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez running in 2024, theyād be unstoppable but their politics maybe too far apart.
Arizona dismisses āsharpiegateā claims
Officials in the battleground state of Arizona have rebutted claims that ballot papers marked with sharpies [permanent markers] have been disqualified.
In a post on Twitter the stateās top election official, Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, said using a sharpie would not invalidate ballots.
Some posts on social media contained claims that Republican voters in Arizona were given sharpies in a bid to make their ballots unreadable.
āThe poll workers were taking the pens from voters and making them use Sharpies. Sharpies bleed through. All of the votes marked with Sharpies couldnāt be read,ā one Facebook post read.
Democrats said the claims - dubbed āsharpiegateā - were part of a misinformation campaign to undermine Joe Bidenās lead. With 85% of the vote counted in Arizona, Biden was ahead by more than 79,000 votes. Republicans have won every presidential race there since 1952, except for one Democratic interlude in 1996.
Why do different news sites have different tallies?
If you are seeing different tallies at the top of the live coverage from various news sites, you might well be confused.
This is because some news sites have projected wins in Arizona (meaning an extra 11 electoral college votes) and Wisconsin (10 electoral college votes) for Biden.
The BBC still considers these too early to project.
This year, the BBC gets its data via Reuters, from polling firm Edison Research, who do the field work for the exit polls and work with US networks in the National Election Pool.
In Wisconsin, 99% of the votes have been counted, with the candidates neck and neck.
In Arizona, 85% of votes have been counted, and Biden is leading with 51% of the votes, with Trump on 48%.
The watch word this year is āpatienceā. Stay tuned and we will bring you updates as soon as we have them.
From Sky
Update from Georgia
The gap has narrowed further with now 96% of the votes counted.
Donald Trumpās lead has been cut to 18,540 votes or 0.4%.
In other words. much of the media is trying to create thews instead of reporting on it.
BBC has declared Wisconsin to Biden. But if only 1% between them they will recount
Much as Iād like to see Biden win here, I think Trump will hang on by a whisker. But Nevada is looking stronger for Biden, I think Arizona will be confirmed soon, Wisconsin has now been called fir Dem and projections for Pennsylvania are very positive for Biden.
Trump is still going to play every dirty trick in the book, but I think Bidenās almost there.
An interesting hypothesis Iāve seen a couple of times now is that, if Biden wins, after his investiture heāll rest on his laurels having finally made president and resign fairly quickly in favour of Harris.
Which I think would be a good thing overall and would infuriate the GOP.
Accordfing to the latest numbers on Google, Nevada still has around 378K votes to count.
Bidenās margin is presently around 13k.
But I think the majority of outstanding votes are from Dem areas.
Iām still massively ambivalent about the result. The Dems havenāt really learned anything and until the likes of AOC find some real power, they never will.
I am cautiously optimistic about Biden, at least as a steadying the ship measure, but the divisions wonāt mend absent some major olive branch initiatives.
Even so, that country needs socialised intiatives more than any other in the Western world and yet socialism is a dirty hated word among 48% of the population.
I donāt know how you help it. The best you can do is stem the damage. Hopefully Biden does that. But if weāre suddenly involved in another new war, Iām going to wonder what the fucking point was.
