At least I had money on the draw

By a stroke of tactical genius, we have engineered that we are in the other half than Germany Portugal Spain and France … and Southgate with his lucky balls will see us play the worst of the three possibles…. leading to us being World beaters again despite being shit…

We did achieve a record along with the other teams in our group.

England were also short on creativity in a group where no team scored more than one goal in a game for the first time in the competition’s history.

Bowen’s previous cameo - very positive and full of intent - was rewarded with not a single further minute. Says a lot

He looked motivated, competent and competitive. We can’t have that.

Southgate is getting a load of grief in the press etc for style of play / lack of goals

The counter is we topped our group and are now in the easier side of the draw so you could argue job done

Of course we want to see England demolishing teams playing a buccaneering style and free flow goals, but we also want to progress.

Assuming that the style of play doesn’t change and we continue to grind out turgid results, at what stage in the competition does everyone stop beefing? quarters / semis / final?

I reckon even if we win this thing, some people are going to be whinging about playing style,

I have it worked out we meet Austria in the semifinal so I get at least 1 of my sweepstake teams into the final

winner winner chicken dinner

I was watching last night and I said it’s like watching Saints play!!

However counter that with the fact that Slovenia are a VERY defensive team that like to catch you on the break (is it what they call a low block theses days??)

England were passing the ball around the back yesterday looking for breaks, do the same against a pressing team and you will get more holes where the England players can thread passes through.

Again though we’ve got to have the players on the picth to be able to do that, so for me Trippier at least can go. Leave Harry up front to do his poacher thing and bring Palmer et al in to start.

Look at Saints supporters under Puel for that answer…

Yep certainly did, except it was like Saints when we were starting the season playing a style with which we weren’t familiar.

I saw a comment somewhere saying Gomez played half the season at LB for Liverpool - so stick him there - not the worst idea I have heard.

Then use trippier as a sub if we get a problem

Anthony Gordon to Southgate…

SSA

Trippier is the problem. Yet it is ignored.

KWP actually has a left foot he can use sometimes. Tripoier does not. He has to turn back or inside. We lose access to almost a quarter of the pitch when he plays.
He is a great footballer but it is amateur hour/Emperor’s New Clothes to keep persisting with him.
Southgate fucked up he had a year to try out other left backs but persisted with his mates only project.

Drop Bellingham? No. He has been shit because he is trying to mend that hole left by Trippier (and to an extent) by Foden

Foden & Tripper = next flight home.
Need Trippier & Gordon or Gomes/Konsa & Foden

I reckon against Slovenia Bellingham was told to play further forward so that he could do Kane’s running for him.
