Interesting that we seem to have missed out on Sangare because his transfer fee was too cheap! We struggle to compete with the big boys as it is so we need to pick up quality players on the cheap. What difference does it make if we have manage to negotiate a good price? The main point should be his quality, not the sale price.
I believe we missed out on Sangare because he wouldn’t have been given a work permit…

I might be wrong but I have a feeling that in order to be granted a work permit you have to make a case to prove the player will add or enhance the league. Or some bullshit like that.
Often the number of international caps etc is a factor.
But I guess what Ralph is saying is that superficial focus on a low transfer fee for a young player with limited international experience (?) gives the impression that he would not add value to the league blah blah. But if he came with a £25m price tag the perception is different and more like “oh wow, yeah he must be a decent young player”.
That’s my interpretation anyway.
