I liked this comment from the Beeb live feed

“Only England can make you look forward to the official start of summer for weeks and then pray for rain half an hour after they have gone into bat …”

Day 1: England won the toss and elected to bat

Blimey the cricfree stream is 6 runs behind espn

And not working very well so back to work it is then

And YJB gets himself out 100/4

Hmmm

Tide turning back Pakistan’s way again. Good toss to lose as they say

Faheem Ashraf to Bairstow, OUT , wide on the crease and Bairstow is beaten on the outside edge! Completely out of the blue, he had been looking so solid, but seemed to play for the angle rather than the seam movement, and back goes the off stump! Lord’s is rather stunned into what was already a relatively post-prandial silence. Just when England were looking settled, they’ve gifted Pakistan an opening!

Mohammad Amir to Cook, OUT , oh, that’s a beauty - pings the top of off stump and Cook is a goner! Amir celebrates his first wicket, arms spread in the same fashion as when he clinched victory here two years ago. Cook has to trudge off, head down, but that was a fine knock and it took a brilliant ball to crowbar him from the crease. It’s the angle he has struggled with against left-armers… but you don’t get much more precise than that delivery

Just watched Scott Quinnel, on the Sky Sports Cricket channel, try to hit a fast delivery in the nets. Hilarious…

Collapse alert

Mohammad Abbas to Stokes, OUT , huge appeal for lbw and he’s gone on review! Given not out and Sarfraz has called the review. Looks stone dead if it has pitched in line. Stokes playing back, struck on the knee roll. It’s pitched on leg stump and this is gone! Just a fraction more than 50% of the ball inside leg stump and it’s hitting the top of middle. Top call from Sarfraz

BA Stokes lbw b Mohammad Abbas 38 (64b 5x4 1x6) SR: 59.37

Hasan Ali to Buttler, OUT , super catch! Grabbed at second slip. England on the slide. Full outside off, Buttler going for the drive and it’s plucked out of the air by Shafiq. Pakistan’s slip catching has been dodgy for some time, that was very good

JC Buttler c Asad Shafiq b Hasan Ali 14 (15b 2x4 0x6) SR: 93.33

Pakistan’s catching in the slips has suddenly improved :-

Mohammad Abbas to Bess, OUT , another one taken at second slip!. Another England batsman lured into a drive. The ball was full outside off, Bess sends a thick edge to Shafiq

DM Bess c Asad Shafiq b Mohammad Abbas 5 (14b 1x4 0x6) SR: 35.71

Abbas again!!

Mohammad Abbas to Broad, OUT , and he’s given lbw! So Broad lasts just two balls. Abbas gets this fuller at the stumps and even Broad doesn’t consider a review. Struck him low on the front pad.

SCJ Broad lbw b Mohammad Abbas 0 (2b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

On a side note, do we really still have Broad and Anderson in the test side?

184 all out

Hasan Ali to Wood, OUT , and it’s all over! No mistake from Amir this time. A shorter delivery, Wood goes for the pull and splices it towards mid-on. Amir runs to the left, stretches and dives to take a good one

MA Wood c Mohammad Amir b Hasan Ali 7 (9b 1x4 0x6) SR: 77.77

A good day for Vincey.

I for one was happy to watch him up the road yesterday and again this Sunday.

Commentator just said that Broad and Anderson are stubborn with their lengths but they can’t be as they need to pitch the ball up (on this wicket).

Let’s see, I am troubled somewhat by Broad and Anderson still being our main strike bowlers…

No surprises here then after lunch
