The definition of insanity is to keep doing …
I know it’s only rumours and I promise not to piss my pants until after the window closes but it will be a very sad state of affairs if we cannot go out in to the market and sign a goalkeeper better than McCarthy. He really isn’t great so what does that tell you.
With the exception of the bookies making us favourites for Pope (who was never going to be a target), all of the other rumours have been quite underwhelming.
I’m sure this 20 year old City lad has potential but look what happened the last time we signed a young Man City keeper with a year or so experience on loan in the lower leagues (Angus Gunn). How will this lad’s sanity cope with conceding 9 goals?

It’s a no from me
It’s a yes from me only, if it will disappoint those upstarts down the road.
Well I hope must admit I’m surprised that Matt Targett seems to have carved out a decent career after leaving us. Ever present at Villa until Gerrard arrived, who obviously didn’t fancy him and shipped him straight out on loan to Newcastle, ever present there this last season under Howe and didn’t look out of place, Howe obviously rates him. Now got a permanent deal, good luck to him I say.
He was always a good left back.
But peak Berteand better
He was always a bit player for us, in and out of the side. But he’s obviously kicked on, think we missed a trick there, especially given our dearth of decent defenders, we could certainly have done with him last season that’s for sure.
I always thought with us he was better at the attack side than defensively. Put in some peachy crosses, but seemed to get pulled out of position at the back.
Sheldon reporting it as close now.
Maybe do him some good, get some confidence back. Meanwhile we can work on getting someone in who could give him some service.
Thing is, we lifted him from the championship in the first place after a confidence high season filled with goals galore. Not sure how another championship season moves anybody forward and gets him to Premier league standard.
Unless we are getting him ready for the 23/24 season where we could well be in the Championship too.
Broja won’t be staying, nor will Long, so it seems pretty unlikely that we’ll farm him out.
If he stays, he needs to be given game time, and to play in a system he, and the rest of the team, understand and can contribute to.
The way Ralph’s tactics have gone, this is unlikely, so this poor talented young man will probably become one of saints “failures”., with his self confidence totally destroyed.
To be honest in the games he played this last season he had plenty of chances, he just couldn’t finish. Vast majority of defenders in the Prem are at a different level to the Championship, shut him down quicker, he’s very slightly built and they bully him, sadly IMO he’s not Premiership standard, Championship is probably his level.
You are probably right - but then why on earth did we buy him, and was Ralph involved in the choice? I think we had all hoped we were past the time when we bought players like Carillo and Hoedt, but perhaps not.
Does this offer any solace?
"It is only a question of time before he will be an important part of our team. He is a long-term project like all the other players in our squad.”
