That would mean he is still technically employed by Southampton fc but being used by and paid by the American team. maybe his contract with saints is longer than the year in the US

Still seems odd to me.
I may be reading it wrong, but the two things i thought after reading the article was as you say, a closer tie up for talent and a deliberate push for RJs career.

Yeah, something like that went through my mind. Perhaps a move into Ralphâs team followed by a plan to step up if and when Ralph goes?
