A lot of the supermarkets give it to Fareshare to pass on to families

Yeah my brother in law (you know what I think about him) works for an M&S Foodhall, lovely considerate chap that he is he used to complain that the out of date food went to the likes of Fareshare rather than to the staff…

Talking to a friend this morning, she said they’ve also just taken a delivery of some chickens.

“How many?” I enquired thinking it would be maybe a dozen for their small holding. “500” she said.

My daughter has 3 chickens on her 15 sqcm in Essex.

Seems to be a thing these days, they became part the family and come & chat apparently.

I just eat the eggs & vegs

The only chickens I ever had came home to roost when I forgot our first wedding anniversary

I live vintage stuff. Including a Black forest gateau. The other day I ordered some food and they provided a free little pot of black forest cake thing. It was delicious.

Umm I was born in the 70s and remember it was a treat in the 80s still to have one. Or the chocolate gateau. Chocolate, cherry and cream. What’s not to like? I made a vegan version for my partner for his birthday and it was so good.

Was Vienetta on the menu back then for you? I seem to remember it slowly becoming the family desert of choice.

Yep definitely 80s possibly into 90s. It was such a treat. We weren’t a massive pudding and sweet family. But we occasionally had the Neapolitan ice cream or a lolly. Then I decided I preferred proper gelato after spending time in Italy in the mid 90s.
I enjoyed watching the Back in Time for Dinner TV programme the other year to see how food has changed. The family live locally (I could probably knock on their door given the shots from outside their house when filming!) and I have bumped into the dad on the tube. I’d say the ability to get any food 24/7 is not great. Cakes used to be bought from a bakery for a special occasion. Not just when you feel like it or to fill some emotional hole from that day.

You want nostalgia? Modernised?

Abslutely nothing wrong with a proper Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte at all @In

My mother (rest her soul) used to make something called Devils Food Cake, which included chocolate cake, chocolate icing, sprinkle things and lashings of cream. Not very often, and with a large family didn’t last long - but the memory lingers on (must have been back in 60s/70s). Better than BFGateaux.

Nothing was better than BFG

Perhaps in DOOM, Filip. Perhaps in DOOM.

Sounds good! My mum used to make some chocolate pudding not quite a mouse but similar. Pour cream over the top and then chocolate shavings on top. Heart attack city.

How cruel…mice have rights too. :sob:

Last day before National lockdown.
We had a mini trip planned to a mountain village just to get out and get some more pics for the work FB page.
Got all tgermalled up and Whumph we got hit with a Blizzard.
Short lived in the village but if we’d left an hour earlier we’d have been stuck on a random mountain road.
Carnage down there, dodged a bullet

Caught up with a friend today. She is pregnant. That’s the 4th friend (sadly one had a miscarriage) and also a colleague from work. So two of my friends are due on 11th August. The colleague and other friend on 6/7th May. What are the odds!?
People have been busy.
