Had a drive around in my old Jalopy this morning to blow the cobwebs off. Nothing sadder on a warm summer morning than a pub with no beer.
Only took mother nature 3 months to reclaim that building.
You should see what itâs like inside, think Mrs Havishamâs house in Great Expectations crossed with the spiders area of Mirkwood
Teams now supports custom backgrounds! Very impressive low-fi green-screening if you donât move around too much.
Should have tried The Queenâs Legs. Always open.
Treason!! Hang him!!!
The Kings head at Hursley i think? We always used to pile in there after playing cricket at Hursley Park, the best part of forty years ago. Time flies, but some good memories.
I thought you, (and others) may be interested in this. The old Hampshire adage which describes a man as being,âso drunk he must have been to Romseyâ was certainly true! A proper drunkards paradise.

Yep 'tis true. I think it stems from an ancient by-law that allowed private dwelling places to brew their own beers and sell it from their front parlours. At one time virtually every house in Romsey was selling ale.
BTW I drove down the private road to the cricket club and took this picture in front of a well established landmark.
I think that applies more to the Princess of OurEveryoneâs Hearts
Who did you play for and when?
I had, i think 3 seasons playing for St Cross,a Winchester side in the Hampshire league. Would have been 1977-78-79. I ended up at Michelmersh &Timsbury for a few seasons. Till about 1987, then i moved to Wales.
Played St Cross many times for Winchester, you may remember them as Hyde Ramblers, who I played for from 83-02. In the early dads there were Olivers Battery and O S R who all merged with St Cross who now are one of the top sides in the Southern League. Only played footy at M & T after they got the new ground.
Did you ever go on a Stragglers tour to Kent.
I think i remember Hyde Ramblers. I started playing for St Cross not long after i moved to Southampton after a few years hiatus from playing. Mostly played for the seconds but had a few games for the firsts. They were a decent team, good bunch of lads as i recall. Played the evening league too which was fun. Never went on a Stragglers tour to Kent, i would have enjoyed that, i was born and bred in Kent, thatâs where my love of cricket started. Had a good sports teacher at school who was an ex Kent county player so we had some good coaching.
Reckon that isnât going to smoke well
Youâve obviously forgotten your real name.
