The text editor is an off-the-shelf jobbie, so we can probably get some improvements there by just upgrading. Preview is definitely do-able, even if it has to be custom developed.
Good to hear. Shall look forward to it.

Forum-wise, I’d like a bit more poster retention. We’ve got loads of the old crowd that have signed up, said hello and disappeared into the ether. I’m glad they’ve got accounts, like - but it’d be nice to see them around a bit more.
And also I’ve noticed, some that did used to post a lot, that have also disappeared. Whatever happened to Ohio? Was a poster I liked from ‘the other place’, but seems to have vanished from here.
Also Halo Stickman. Nice guy, and was glad to see he was here, but shortly after my arrival, he hasn’t posted for weeks and weeks now. I’m beginning to take it personally.

However, I’ve also seen (through the admin panel) people that have got a load of downvotes and sworn off the place too, so voting may not necessarily be the self-moderating panacea Jack has painted it as. I definitely think it does more good than ill, though.
Ah, a shame to hear. I just haven’t seen any of that myself, and can only go on what I do see. If that was actual ‘targetting’ of a particular person unjustly, then not good, but I’d find it surprising. Perhaps simply that a lot of people didn’t like the things they were posting, and ‘the forum spoke’ with its votes?

There are two other huge constraints. First, it’s the choice to allow really bad language. Some people have plenty of answers to Cartman’s brilliant question “What’s the big fucking deal, bitch?”. “It’s rude. I don’t like it. You can use better words, y’know.” Fuck 'em. If it’s good enough for RAWK, we can do it too.
Tis another good thing for me. Airs and graces are welcome and fine if you want to use them, but so is making use of the wonderful word ‘cunt’ if I want to use that too. It is a powerful and expressive word, and I do not like to have unnecessary restrictions placed upon my vocabulary.

Jack, fuck off you creep.
Thanks Bletch. It’s always an honour to be insulted by a legend such as yourself.
Cunt.
Haha, I was obviously conscious of the ‘creep’ effect of my post, but I do strongly believe in the power of encouragement. I’ve known so many people in my life that only ever tell you when you’re doing something wrong. Too seldom are we actually thanked for providing a valuable service, because that is simply what has become expected of us in doing our jobs. We’re quick to slate people when they fuck up, and yet reticent to offer praise when they do something well.
End of the day, I don’t really care if it sounds ‘sucky’, I like to give credit where I feel it is due.

No offence to Mr. Bulsara, but I think having him around and not having everyone either leave or lynch him means something is working.
Exactly, and Bazza is a great example of what I mean. In some of the “reasonably serious discussions” we have, I’ve noticed poor Baz takes a fair few down-votes for his confrontational debating style. But it is a content issue. In another more lighthearted topic on the page, I’ll see that he still gets a fair share of up-votes as appropriate. If that was ‘other forums’ he’d have been written off already, and not received those points just because of who he is, rather than the content of his post. That for me shows that the system here is working well as it should. Playing the ball, and not the man.
